Chapter Forty-Four: Because Why does this This Seem like An End Game Boss? (Part 1)

The Abyssal Forge loomed ahead, an imposing structure of jagged bck stone and molten rivers that ran like veins through its foundation. Smoke and ash billowed from its spires, casting the area in a fiery haze. Every so often, the forge let out a deep, resonating rumble, as if the very earth were groaning under its weight.

The group stood just outside the dungeon’s massive iron gates, the heat rolling over us in waves. Despite the oppressive atmosphere, the Phoenix Ascendent guild was here in force, their banners snapping in the hot winds. Familiar faces mingled among the gathered members—Kaelion, his armor shining even in the dim light; Lyra, her sharp gaze scanning the horizon; Drog, his massive ax resting casually on one shoulder; and Era, her robes fluttering as she adjusted the staff in her hand.

Kaelion stepped forward, his expression grim but resolute. He faced the gathered pyers, his voice cutting through the roar of the forge like a bde.

“Brothers and sisters,” he began, his voice steady but full of emotion. “The Abyssal Forge has been a blight on this region for too long. Its corruption spreads like wildfire, twisting the game we’ve poured our hearts into, warping the very world we’ve sworn to protect. But today—today, we put an end to it.”

A murmur of agreement rippled through the group, and Kaelion raised his fist.

“Today, we stand as one. As pyers, as warriors, as the Phoenix Ascendent guild. We will face whatever horrors lie within those walls, not for ourselves, but for the community that looks to us for hope. And when this day is done, the forge will burn no longer!”

Fi narrowed her eyes. “Wha…Is he trying to replicate the speech from Braveheart?”

I smirked, nudging Fi in the ribs. Despite the over-the-top speech, I had gotten acquainted with everyone here and the guild.

The guild began to form into groups. Kaelion approached our party, his gaze steady.

“Kiera. Devon. Selene. Fi. Mason. Ethan,” he said, nodding at each of us in turn. “Your team has proven itself time and again. You’ll be joining me and my officers in the assault on the core. We’ll need your skills to bring this to a decisive end.”

Devon nodded, his greatsword resting across his shoulders. “We’re ready.”

Fi grinned, twirling one of her twin swords. “Let’s torch this pce and call it a day.”

Era approached, her robes shimmering faintly with protective enchantments. “Be mindful,” she said, her voice calm but firm. “The constructs inside the forge are more advanced than anything we’ve faced before. They’ll adapt to our tactics quickly.”

“Great,” Ethan muttered, adjusting his bow. “Nothing like an enemy that gets smarter while you fight it.”

Lyra smirked faintly, her sharp gaze locking onto Kiera. “Just keep your wits about you. This isn’t a pce for mistakes.”

Without flinching, Kiera met Lyra’s gaze. “We’ll handle it.”

As we gathered near the entrance, the guild buzzed with activity. Pyers checked their inventories, adjusted their gear, and exchanged st-minute advice. Devon moved beside me, his expression serious.

“Stay close when we get inside,” he said, his voice low. “We know what we’re really after and what lies in wait for us.”

“I know,” I replied, my stomach churning with unease. The weight of the Fragmented Binary Codes in my inventory felt heavier than usual, a constant reminder of the secrets I carried.

Selene joined us; her presence was calm and grounding. “We’ll make it through,” she said, her tone steady. “We’ve faced worse.”

“Have we, though?” Ethan quipped, his smirk not quite reaching his eyes.

Fi rolled her eyes, giving Ethan a light shove. “Quit being such a downer, emo boy. We’ve got this.”

Before I could respond, my HUD flickered faintly, and a familiar notification popped up:

  [Private Message Received: UNKNOWN]

I opened the message, carefully keeping my expression neutral as the others began discussing the strategy.

UNKNOWN:Find the access point to the server’s code. That is where You’ll find the Guardian Mod. This won’t be like Oberon. It’s stronger. Smarter. And it won’t hesitate to delete you if it deems you a threat.

My grip on Hydra Fang tightened. UNKNOWN’s cryptic warnings were nothing new, but mentioning the Guardian Mod again sent a chill through me. Memories of our brutal weeks-long battle with Oberon surfaced, reminding me how dangerous these Guardians were.

Keira: I’m guessing you won’t tell me how I will find the access point? I’ll have to “figure it out.”

UNKNOWN:Look at you learning quickly. Be quick about, oh, and Kiera... don’t trust the developers. They don’t want you to succeed.

Kaelion shouted, bringing my attention to where he stood with a raised hand, signaling for silence. “Phoenix Ascendent—move out!”

The gates of the forge creaked open with a metallic groan, and the heat inside surged outward, washing over us like a tidal wave. With weapons drawn and nerves steeled, we stepped into the depths of the Abyssal Forge, ready to face whatever y ahead.

  ?????°???°?????

The heat inside the Abyssal Forge hit like a wave of molten iron. Every breath burned my lungs, and the air shimmered with the glow of va rivers that snaked through the ground beneath us. The forge was immense—a sprawling byrinth of ancient machinery, glowing runes, and massive gears grinding endlessly overhead. Steam hissed from cracks in the walls, and the floor beneath us thrummed with an unsettling energy, like a beast stirring in its sleep.

Kaelion strode at the front of the group, his bde glinting in the fiery light. His officers—Lyra, Drog, and Era—fnked him, their faces set with grim determination. My party followed close behind, each of us tense and ready. Every step deeper into this dungeon felt like walking into the jaws of something hungry.

“Listen up,” Kaelion called, his voice cutting through the ambient noise. “This forge is a death trap. Its constructs will adapt to your tactics, so keep them guessing. Watch each other’s backs, and don’t get cocky.”

The ptform we crossed groaned ominously under our weight, suspended over a river of molten va that bubbled and hissed. Ahead, the path opened into a massive circur chamber where the heat intensified. Before anyone could comment, the ground began to tremble, and a low rumble filled the air.

Three massive figures began to rise from the va pools at the far end of the chamber. They were hulking constructs of bck stone, their bodies glowing with fiery veins of molten energy. Each step they took sent tremors through the ground, and their hollow, ember-like eyes locked onto us.

  [Enemy Encounter: Lava Constructs]

HP: 15,000Abilities:Magma Burst: AoE explosion that leaves burning zones.Lava Sm: Heavy melee attack with knockback.Molten Regen: Heals 10% HP per second when near va pools.“They look friendly,” Fi quipped, her twin swords fshing as she twirled them. “Think they’ll let us pass if we say ‘please’?”

Mason cracked his knuckles, the faint glow of his hammer reflecting off his armor. “Only one way to find out.”

Devon stepped forward, his greatsword resting against his shoulder. “Kiera, call it.”

My hand tightened on Hydra Fang, the dagger’s venomous glow seeming to pulse in anticipation. I assessed the constructs quickly, noting their movements and the proximity of the va pools. “Devon, Mason, keep them off the pools. Selene and Fi focus on weak points. Ethan, provide cover from the backline. I’ll stabilize the terrain if they try to heal.”

Devon didn’t wait for further instructions. He charged the lead construct with a roar, his greatsword cleaving through its shoulder with a burst of sparks. The construct staggered, but its glowing eyes burned brighter as it retaliated, raising one massive arm and smming it into the ground.

The impact sent cracks splintering across the ptform, but Devon held his ground. Mason followed close behind, his hammer glowing faintly as he brought it down with a thunderous crash near the second construct.

The shockwave rippled outward, stunning two of the constructs and leaving them vulnerable. Fi darted in immediately, her twin swords a blur as she targeted the exposed joints of the nearest enemy.

“Too slow!” Fi taunted as the construct roared in frustration, its movements growing more erratic. Selene disappeared into the shadows, her form vanishing from sight before reappearing behind the second construct. Her dagger fshed as it plunged into a glowing fissure along its back.

Ethan fired a volley of arrows from the backline, each one striking with pinpoint accuracy. His attacks aimed for the exposed weak points Fi and Selene had opened, chipping away at the constructs’ health.

As the fight raged on, the constructs shifted their focus, two moving dangerously close to the va pools. I felt a surge of panic as their Molten Regen ability activated, their health bars ticking upward.

“Not happening,” I muttered, raising my hand as blue energy crackled to life around me. I focused on the terrain near the pools, willing the molten rock to harden into solid stone.

  [Skill Activated: Glitch Patch]

The va near the pools shimmered briefly before solidifying, cutting off the constructs’ regeneration. Devon and Mason took the opportunity to press their advantage, their heavy strikes driving the lead construct further back.

The first construct fell under the combined assault, its molten core shattering with a deafening crack. The second staggered as Selene’s dagger struck true, and Fi delivered the finishing blow with a flourish of her twin swords. The third construct, weakened and glitching, let out a distorted roar before Mason’s hammer crushed its core.

  [Battle Complete]

XP Gained: 4,500Loot Acquired: Lava Core (Rare Crafting Material). The ptform fell silent, save for the faint hum of the forge’s machinery. Kaelion lowered his sword, his sharp eyes scanning the chamber for any remaining threats. “Everyone still in one piece?” he asked.

“Barely,” Fi muttered, brushing ash from her armor. “Are all the fights in here going to be like that?”

“This was just the warm-up,” Lyra said, her tone as sharp as her bdes. “It’s only going to get harder from here.”

I sheathed my dagger, my gaze lingering on the massive doors at the chamber's far end. Their glowing runes pulsed faintly, a clear sign of the corruption waiting beyond. “Let’s keep moving,” I said. “We’re not done yet.”

Kaelion nodded, his expression grim. “Phoenix Ascendent, regroup. The core’s not going to stabilize itself.”

With weapons ready and adrenaline still pumping, we pushed deeper into the forge, the path ahead glowing ominously with the promise of greater dangers.

The oppressive heat of the Abyssal Forge seemed to intensify the deeper we ventured. The air shimmered with heat distortion, and the dull hum of ancient machinery filled the cavernous space. After clearing the first wave of Lava Constructs, the path ahead twisted into narrow walkways suspended over molten rivers. The glow of the va below cast flickering shadows on the walls, adding to the unease that prickled at the back of my mind.

Kaelion led the group with measured determination, his sword at the ready. Beside him, Drog hefted his ax as though daring something to attack while Era walked slightly behind, her hands glowing faintly with protective magic. My own party moved as a unit just behind them, keeping close but giving the Phoenix officers enough room to maneuver.

As we approached a massive set of iron doors adorned with glowing runes, my HUD flickered faintly. A private message popped up in the corner of my vision, and I opened it with a sense of foreboding.

[Private Message Received: UNKNOWN] Kiera, this is it. Beyond that door lies the core of the forge. Find a way in.

The words sent a chill down my spine despite the stifling heat. Memories of Oberon fshed through my mind, and the grueling weeks it took to bring down that Guardian Mod were still fresh. If this one was worse, we were in for a fight that could redefine what "difficult" meant.

“Everything okay?” Selene’s voice cut through my thoughts, her sharp eyes flicking toward me.

I nodded, forcing a calm expression. “Yeah. Unknown messaged. That facility is near; I’ll need to find a way in.”

Before Selene could probe further, Kaelion stopped and raised a hand. “Listen up,” he called, his voice carrying over the ambient noise. “The core is just beyond these doors. We take it slow and steady, and we don’t give it a chance to overwhelm us. Phoenix Ascendent, on me. Kiera, your group, hold the fnks and cover any stragglers.”

“Got it,” Devon replied, his greatsword resting against his shoulder as he gnced back at me. “We’ve got this.”

The doors groaned as they swung open, revealing a massive chamber. The core of the forge was suspended in the center, a glowing sphere of crackling energy surrounded by twisting metal tendrils. Ptforms spiraled upward toward it, connected by narrow bridges that radiated heat.

And waiting for us on the lowest ptform were constructs rger and more menacing than the ones we’d faced before.

  [Enemy Encounter: Core Guardians]

HP: 25,000Abilities:Firestorm Barrage: AoE ranged attack that targets multiple pyers.Molten Charge: Dashes toward the nearest pyer, dealing massive damage and stunning on impact.Overheat Protocol: Temporarily increases damage output at the cost of HP.“Positions!” Kaelion ordered, already moving forward to engage. Drog followed with a bellow, his ax swinging in a wide arc that cshed against the nearest construct’s molten armor.

“Let’s go!” I called to my team, darting to the left as Devon and Mason charged ahead. Selene vanished into the shadows, and Ethan nocked an arrow as he aimed at the rear.

Devon’s greatsword struck the lead Core Guardian with a heavy blow, sparks flying as the weapon bit into its armor. The construct retaliated with a devastating swing of its arm, sending Devon skidding back across the ptform.

Fi moved in next, her twin swords fshing as she struck at the joints of the construct. The quick flurry of attacks left glowing trails in its armor, exposing weak points.

“Kiera heads up!” Ethan called as an arrow streaked past me, embedding itself in the chest of a second Core Guardian. The arrow glowed briefly before detonating, slowing the construct’s movements.

I dodged a fming projectile and retaliated with a precise strike to the lead construct’s exposed core. The Hydra Fang hissed as its venom seeped into the construct, causing its movements to glitch and stutter.

“Selene, fnk it!” I shouted. She reappeared behind the third construct, her dagger plunging into the back of its glowing core. The construct roared, its health bar dipping sharply as it approached her.

Kaelion’s voice cut through the chaos. “Keep them off the core! Focus your attacks and watch your footing!”

Lyra darted in and out of the fray, her daggers fshing as she targeted exposed weak points. Era’s protective magic shimmered in the air, shielding Mason as he swung his hammer in a wide arc.

“Watch the pools!” I yelled as one of the constructs moved toward a nearby va flow. Its health bar ticked upward as its Molten Regen ability activated. Blue energy crackled in my hand as I focused on the terrain, stabilizing the area and cutting off its regeneration.

With its healing cut-off, the construct faltered. Devon and Mason delivered the final blows, their weapons striking in tandem and shattering its core.

The remaining constructs followed their massive forms, crumbling into glowing shards. The chamber fell silent, save for the hum of the forge core above us.

  [Battle Complete]

XP Gained: 6,000Loot Acquired: Core Fragment (Epic Crafting Material). As the dust settled, Kaelion turned to the group, his expression hard but satisfied.

The air grew heavier as the group gathered near the glowing forge core. Tendrils of energy spiraled upward, casting flickering shadows across the ptform. Despite the victory over the Core Guardians, an undercurrent of tension remained. The forge’s hum had shifted—quieter but more insidious, as though the dungeon itself was holding its breath.

Kaelion stood at the ptform's edge, his sharp gaze fixed on the core. “We stabilize this, and the forge is finished,” he said, his tone resolute. “No more corruption spreading through this region.”

My eyes lingered on the ptform beneath the core. Something was off. The faint glow of the runes there wasn’t just decorative—it pulsed erratically, flickering like a glitch in the system. The realization sent a chill down my spine.

UNKNOWN’s warning pyed in my mind. An access point to the server’s code is beneath this dungeon. The Guardian Mod is waiting.

I stepped forward and activated my Glitch Patch ability. The energy surged through me, blue tendrils of light snaking outward and tching onto the unstable runes. The world around me dimmed briefly as the code stabilized, revealing hidden pathways beneath the ptform.

I nodded, my gaze drifting toward the massive energy sphere at the chamber's center. The ptform beneath it glowed faintly, a clear sign that something important—and dangerous—y below.

UNKNOWN’s warning echoed in my mind. Beneath this dungeon is an access point to the game’s server facility. And a Guardian Mod waits there.

“We’re not done yet,” I murmured as we prepared to descend.

The floor shimmered, and the ptform split open to reveal a spiral staircase descending into darkness. A rush of cooler air spilled upward, ced with an almost metallic scent. My HUD pinged faintly, warning of a new, undiscovered area.

[Hidden Pathway Discovered: Server Access Point]

“What the hell is that?” Devon asked, stepping beside me. His greatsword gleamed faintly in the flickering light.

Kaelion frowned, his hand resting on his sword hilt. “That’s not part of the forge’s structure. What’s down there?”

I hesitated. I couldn’t exactly tell him the truth without raising more questions than I was ready to answer. “I think it’s connected to the corruption,” I said carefully. “It might be what’s feeding into the forge.”

Kaelion studied me for a moment, his sharp gaze lingering. “We can’t split our forces. Phoenix Ascendent stays focused on the core. Your group can investigate this—quietly. If it’s something critical, report back immediately.”

“Understood,” I said, relief mixing with the gnawing dread in my chest. Whatever was down there, I didn’t want the entire guild involved. This felt personal, tied to the fragments and the secrets UNKNOWN had shared.
