Chapter Nine-This Will Make Sense Much, Much, Much later

  Chapter Nine

The rest of the test went quite smoothly.

After arriving in the center, I met back up with Marin and Rei.

Apparently where Rei was placed was only about 10 meters from the center.

Why can’t I have that kind of luck?

And the worst part is that she threw away that good fortune!

I would of loved to already be at the center!

  It does make sense, though.

Me and her getting to the center changes nothing, all that matters is if Marin gets to the center.

Were her bodyguards, if she gets in, so do we.

She left the center to go find her and soon did.

After I had her run away during the fight with Follis Darwin, she ran into Rei.

After she explained everything to Rei, they decided to abandon me.

  Man, that hurts.

Can't believe they would do me like that.

  Again, it makes sense.

All that helping me would do is endanger our chances of passing.

  I get it, but still.

Since I removed the walls, most of the remaining students were able to pass.

With no maze to block them, they had a straight path to victory.

Since there was still much daylight out after the first test, the teachers decided to move right to the second.

  Before us is THE wizard.

He moves his hand to his chin and starts stroking his long, grey beard.

“This is the most students we’ve ever had pass the first exam. It seems an unknown test taker had somehow dispelled the magic that the hero used a thousand years ago to create the labyrinth.”

Oh, that might have been me.

Well thats a lot of information learned there.

One: they don’t know that it was me.

Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

That does make me question though, why Nia Hall attacked me.

She charged after me right after I got rid of the walls.

  I figured she knew.

Two: I'm not the first hero.

  That I kinda already figured.

  That also tells many things.

Since they didn’t call him the first hero, it's likely that there wasn’t any after him until I arrived.

There probably hasn’t been a demon king for a thousand years.

If the hero needs to defeat him, then with no hero for a thousand years, a demon king surely would have taken over Vendae.

It kinda sucks that everything I find out is likely common knowledge in this world.

I can't ask anyone about it because I would have to explain that I'm the hero from another world.

And asking Rei or Marin is useless.

Marin barely speaks, and Rei is awful at explanations.

She may be strong, but shes kinda absent-minded.

During her explanation of her time in the maze, she was going back and forth on details because she would forget or just skip parts with no explanation.

I must get her into the harem.

“The next test will be two-on-two battles. You will pair up with whoever you choose, then you will be randomly paired up against another duo. Losing does not guarantee failing the test, and winning does not guarantee passing. Keep that in mind.”

  Winning doesn’t mean passing?

  Then what's the objective?

This academy is called the Hero Academy.

Maybe you need to show heroic traits during the fight?

Dont just crush them without mercy or use your teammate as a shield.

That could very well be it.

“And one last thing. Since there is an odd number of participants, one of you will have to fight alone.”

  Normally, this wouldn’t mean much.

There are hundreds of us here; the odds that I'm the one without a partner are very low.

  But I'm the main character.

  Damn it!

“Marin and I will team together.”

Oh damn, they’ve already teamed together.

I stand there and watch as everyone else around me finds someone to pair up with.

  Eventually, I stand there alone.

  Great.

  Fantastic.

  Splendid.

There are about fifty arenas, all with interesting fights ongoing.

The one that's most important to me, though, is Rei Ilios and Marin Silivius up against Matthew Strouse and Kana Lought.

Mathew and Kana both look like mages.

I would use , but I would like this fight to be entertaining.

If everything were known from the start, there would be no point in even watching.

Another person officiating the match signals the start.

Instantly, Marin holds out her staff and conjures an orb of water, and shoots it at Matthew.

He counters with a ball of fire.

When the two collide, the water evaporates into a thick mist that blocks their vision.

Rei charges in and smacks Matthew with her still sheathed sword, so as not to kill him, right across the face.

It's clear she didn’t hold back, as he was sent flying out of the arena and even collided with a fighter in a different arena.

While Kana is still in shock at what just happened, Marin fires a strong gust of wind that throws her off her balance.

Rei then runs in and whacks Kana just like she did Matthew.

She soars through the sky before interrupting the same fight Matthew did.

  That was fast.

The ref is standing there with his mouth agape before calling the match in Marin and Rei’s victory.

  I understand, man.

That fight was over faster than it even started.

As I said before, why don’t they just send Rei after the demon lord?

They really don’t need a hero when they have her.

Now that they’ve finished their battle, they don’t have anything to do till the third test.

I also don’t have anything to do for a bit.

They fought in the first round, while I'm fighting in the second.

And with how fast they wrapped up their fight, I have plenty of time.

I suppose I should look at that skill now.

  Name: Rentaro Sasajima

  Title: Hero

  Hp: 500/500

  MP: 500/500

  SP: 500/500

  Skills:

  Vendae Draterauq D%Hero F(1)=Vendae F(n)=F(n-1)+-1 n≥2

  What the fuck?

What is this supposed to mean?

Vendae is the name of this world, so what is Draterauq?

  D%Hero?

  F(n)?

  Thats algebra, right?

  Fuck this, next chapter.
