Chapter 7 - Treasure Pavilion(2)

As Gu Xuan walked towards the entrance of the Treasure Pavilion, he, of course, witnessed the area around it and its intricate designs.
Compared to the other buildings in the main street of the Central district, the Treasure room stood out the most, having the most luxurious design.
The ground that spanned several meters surrounding the Treasure Pavilion was elevated by at least a meter high.
Not only was it elevated, the path was flattened. It was not only the path, but the stairs also used thick slabs of stones that would usually only be used in important buildings in the outside world like a city lord’s mansion or an emperor’s.
This is especially in an ancient setting like the current world he is in.
As one climbs up the stairs, one would be able to see the three-story Treasure Pavilion more clearly and the walls were filled with trinkets with crescent-shaped gemstones.
It was luxurious to the point that one would expect it to be a noble’s house.
It was also big enough that if the other buildings were fused, they wouldn’t compare at all in terms of size.
Furthermore, its height was also the highest compared to the others.
It wouldn’t be an understatement to call it the main building of the Central District if it wasn’t used to simply store spiritual treasures.
Gu Xuan understood why such things were built.
He knew that people in the cultivation world liked to save face, which was probably the core reason.
If other sects visited and the place where they store treasures was just a wooden shed, wouldn't they look down on them? Of course they had to build it grandly, if it’s not cultivators but a group of cultivators like a sect is involved, reputation matters a lot.
Upon entering the Treasure Pavilion, at the opposite end of the entrance was a desk.
In the desk, sat an elderly man with a long white beard just like Elder Chen but unlike Elder Chen’s beard that was rough and rugged, this elderly man’s beard was white, smooth and well-kept.
In front of his desk were two empty chairs facing each other. They were most likely used to entertain guests.
As for the treasures on the 1st floor, they were displayed on the walls. Between them were gaps of half a meter so that they wouldn’t be crowded and those who looked at them could see each and every treasure clearly.
Gu Xuan returned his attention to the elderly man with the thought, ‘This must be the 2nd Elder, Liao Weimin, that Senior Sister Guo warned me about to not be disrespectful.’
The elderly man soon turned his gaze to Gu Xuan who had just entered so Gu Xuan cupped his fist, “Disciple Gu Xuan greets Elder Liao.”
Liao Weimin, looking at Gu Xuan’s stiff formal greeting, couldn’t help but chuckle and say, “You can approach closer, don’t worry. I won’t eat you. I haven’t seen you before, you must be a new disciple who has just climbed up the mountain. You can just call me Elder Liao or Grandpa Liao. You must have had quite a first impression of the elders from Elder Chen since you’re acting so formal.”
Upon hearing Liao Weimin’s kind and gentle tone, Gu Xuan couldn’t help but feel surprised.

After all, he could really feel the kindness and sincerity of Liao Weimin.
He wasn’t a man of authority like the previous elder he had met before, Chen Feng.
“Then, Grandpa Liao.” Gu Xuan nonchalantly said, still humble but calmly.
Hearing Gu Xuan choosing to call him Grandpa Liao instead of Elder Liao, Liao Weimin felt satisfied and looked at him in approval.
‘He’s very calm, as if he’s really accepted me as his grandfather, and is acting like he’s my own grandson. Good child.’
Elder Liao liked these kinds of disciples that really treated their fellow disciples and elders as family, unlike those who take hierarchy too seriously like most Central District’s Disciples nowadays.
Disciples can take them seriously but they must not forget that no matter if it was lower district disciples, Central District’s Disciples, or elders, we are all family in the Moonlight Sect.
As Gu Xuan got closer, Elder Liao then said, “We don’t get many disciples who climb the mountain a year, so I’m quite happy since I get a visitor.”
“Ah, yes. I did hear from my seniors that I’ve met on the way that despite only having a hundred houses in the Central District, there are still vacancies.”
“That’s true, I’ve always wanted to set up an academy in the lower district to supervise the fledging’s cultivation so that we can have more disciples in the Central District but…” Elder Liao sighed, “The sect master just wouldn’t allow saying that those who don’t even have the will to improve themselves on their own are not worth the effort with our limited resources.”
“I see, no wonder. I’ve always wondered why there weren’t teachers teaching in the lower district, it turns out that it was the order of the Sect Master.”
“That’s right. It’s not that the Sect Master’s worries are unfounded, we do have limited resources. All in all, the sect master is still thinking about our sect’s well being.”
Elder Liao just stroked his long smooth beard with one hand and he used his other hand to signal for Gu Xuan to sit down on the chair on the opposite side of his desk.
Gu Xuan just nodded and sat down.
Meanwhile Elder Liao started chitchatting, “Which seniors showed you around the sect?”
“Um, at first it was Senior Brother Zhong Wenling, and then it was Senior Sister Guo Meifeng.”
“I see, Xiao Wenling and Xiao Meifeng are indeed good kids but it’s a pity that they don’t have much talent so they can only rely on earning sect points and increasing their cultivation through external resources like medicinal herbs.”
“What’s your tier, Xiao Xuan?”
“I’m Tier 4, Grandpa Liao. I was told by Senior Sister Guo that I can get a spiritual treasure on the 2nd floor and 2 spiritual treasures on the 1st floor?”
After Gu Xuan answered, he showed his sect token that was just recently made to Elder Liao.
“Tier 4? 15 years old?”
“I’m 14 years old, Grandpa Liao.”
“Good child.” Elder Liao nodded in satisfaction as the Central District welcomed yet another promising disciple. There hasn’t been a Tier 4 and above in several years.
“You can indeed get one treasure from the 2nd floor, and two treasures from the 1st floor. You can browse around the 1st floor first then later on, I will accompany you to the 2nd floor. Although we allow disciples to choose treasures, it’s actually based on fate. We don’t tell them immediately of its effect. You can choose two treasures and ask me later of their uses.”
“I see, then, I’ll go look around first, Grandpa Liao.”
“Go. Take your time.” Elder Liao smiled as Gu Xuan stood up and started from the left side of the first floor.
The left side of the 1st floor of the treasure pavilion was full of weapons.
After observing for a while, there were a little over a hundred weapons displayed on the wall on the left side of the 1st floor but Gu Xuan wasn’t very interested in spiritual weapons.
He was more interested in things that can enhance his physical abilities or defend.
‘How should I choose?’
Gu Xuan thought as he looked at the wall on the right side of the 1st floor that was filled with accessories.
After a few moments, Gu Xuan decided not to think too much. ‘Forget it, I’ll just look around for now and see if I can find some interesting things that’ll catch my eyes. After all, I’m neither a master cultivator who went back in time or a heavenly ancestor from ancient times who knows a lot. I’m simply a reincarnator who’s had a first life in the modern world.’
After looking around, what caught his eyes were a dangling earring that was without a pair and a wristband.
The dangling earring had a feather-shaped metal on it filled with unknown patterns. To him, the patterns on the feather-shaped metal looked like futuristic patterns of walls in a cyberpunk setting.
Meanwhile, the wristband had the same designs, he didn’t know of their functions so he simply chose what seemed to be interesting in terms of aesthetic design.
He never intended to rely on spiritual treasures at this stage after all, he planned to hone his combat senses first so that even without spiritual treasures, he knows how to protect himself.
After choosing the two accessories, he walked back to Elder Liao’s desk.
Elder Liao was drinking a cup of tea but as he saw Gu Xuan coming back already, he asked in surprise, “You’re already done looking?”
Gu Xuan scratched the back of his head and replied, “Yes, since I don’t know their functions, there’s no point in pondering for a long time.”
Elder Liao, hearing Gu Xuan’s reasoning let out a laugh, “Is that so? Normally, disciples would contemplate for quite some time before they choose so I was a little surprised. Come, show me what you’ve chosen.”
