The connection was cut, but Elenor never stopped moving. After making sure she had taken everything from the kitchen, she checked the time.
“I finished in twelve minutes and twenty-three seconds. I need to get to the pantry immediately.”
Elenor rushed out of the kitchen and returned with bags in her hands. She opened a door inside the kitchen and began stuffing the stored supplies into the bags. There were canned beans, vegetables, fruits, pasta, sausages, cured meats, dried nuts, jams, and pickled foods. She filled the bags with everything, then hurriedly carried them to the car. Half of the trunk was already full. Elenor checked the time again, bit her lip, and sprinted toward Amanda’s room.
“The pantry and kitchen took twenty-five minutes and thirty-four seconds! Damn it! I should’ve been faster! Aunt Amanda went shopping before leaving! How could I forget that?!”
Elenor rushed into Amanda’s room and grabbed a metallic, high-tech briefcase from the wardrobe. She moved to the nightstand beside Amanda’s bed and quickly pressed several hidden points along its edge simultaneously. The nightstand slid aside. She repeated the same motion on the wall behind it, tapping in different rhythms, and the wall opened to reveal a high-security safe.
“Password: six, four, seven, nine, nine, two, eight… Okay, it’s open.”
The safe’s door split into four sections as it opened, revealing stacks of banknotes, diamonds, jewelry, and gold. Elenor stuffed the cash into a bag, grabbed another, and transferred the gold and jewelry into it, then quickly gathered all of Amanda’s remaining valuables. Once three bags were full, she immediately carried them to the SUV and loaded them inside. Then she sprinted toward the armory, glancing at her watch again as she ran.
“Time is running out! I still need to grab weapons, collect vegetables from the garden, and take seeds!”
Elenor reached the armory at a run and entered the code.
“The password was… BlackHunter 763567.”
The door opened, and Elenor stepped inside, scanning the room.
“Heavy machine weapons, sniper rifles, assault rifles, handguns, shotguns, miniguns, military crossbows and bows… Every time I see this place, I feel the same thing… Aunt Amanda’s armory… A bit excessive…”
She acted quickly. She grabbed a shotgun, an assault rifle, and three handguns, then rushed to the garage and loaded them into the SUV. She returned to the armory, took a sniper rifle, a bow, and a crossbow, and loaded those as well. After that, she filled bags with as much ammunition as she could carry and ran them to the SUV. She went back once more and took grenades, a high-tech military knife whose razor edge was coated with a concentrated energy field, and packed weapon maintenance kits into a bag.
Her gaze then fell on the combat armor resting in a side compartment. She lowered her head, glancing down at two large peaks. Her eyebrow twitched violently as she let out a frustrated, unhappy sigh and moved on.
“Why did my body measurements increase again? The armor doesn’t fit anymore because my proportions changed! Such terrible timing!”
With those thoughts in mind, Elenor loaded the bags into the car once more, returned to the armory, and took whatever else she could carry. As she left, she activated the high-security protocols, and the armory was sealed shut behind heavy reinforced doors. Elenor went back and placed the remaining bags into the SUV, then checked the time.
[56 minutes 22 seconds]
“Damn it!”
She grabbed two large baskets and ran into the garden. As she did, she noticed the sky being painted purple. A bead of tense sweat slid down her face.
“It’s starting, isn’t it? Damn it!”
Elenor rushed through the garden, harvesting as many vegetables as she could, especially potatoes. If she was going to establish a field at the laboratory, potatoes would be the most efficient crop—both in terms of longevity and nourishment. Carrying the two baskets, she hurried back to the SUV and loaded them in. Finally, she gathered all the seeds from the house, placed them inside the vehicle, and closed the trunk.
She got into the driver’s seat, fastened her seatbelt, and started the engine. She tapped her watch to open the garage door. As it opened, Elenor glanced at the silver motorcycle on the right and muttered with a deep sigh.
“I just bought that bike! It doesn’t even have ten thousand kilometers on it yet! I was supposed to ride it this week!”
When she looked again, the garage door was fully open. She gently pressed the accelerator and drove out, then tapped the car’s touchscreen to close the door. She activated the house’s heavy security system through the panels. Metal shutters descended, sealing every entrance and exit, releasing a faint electric current.
Watching this, Elenor spent a few seconds checking the panels to ensure all security systems were functioning properly. Then she took a deep breath and looked at the home she had lived in for years one last time before stepping on the gas.
As she drove along the deserted mountain road, there was a fire raging in the town below. Two twenty-meter-tall mechas were fighting several ogres. In various parts of the town, blue, green, and orange rifts were open, constantly spewing monsters, while soldiers fired their weapons relentlessly. The ground was drenched in blood.
Seeing this scene, Elenor pressed the accelerator to the floor. She sped forward, handling the steering wheel with expert precision.
At that moment, her watch vibrated, and Elenor spoke.
“Eda, voice command: answer the call.”
The call connected. While true artificial intelligence was not in use, some systems operated through voice commands. They were called semi–artificial intelligence, though in reality they were advanced search engines or calculators. The moment the call opened, the panicked, anxious voice of an elderly woman came through Elenor’s watch.
“Elenor! Where are you, my girl?!”
Elenor froze for a brief moment. She thought for a second about who the voice belonged to, then realized it was Hena—the elderly woman who ran a clothing shop in town.
“Aunt Hena? What happened?”
“What happened? I’m in the shelter right now, but I can’t find you! Didn’t you hear the news?! There are multiple rift collapses in the area!”
Hearing this, Elenor’s heart warmed. She hesitated for a moment, then spoke calmly.
“Aunt Hena, I’m in Azera right now. Yesterday, Aunt Amanda called and said she’d forgotten something very important at home and needed it urgently, so I had to go. I’m heading back toward the shelters by car right now…”
Hena let out a relieved breath; the worry in her voice was unmistakable.
“Thank goodness! At least you’re safe.”
“Aunt Hena, I need to hang up now. I’m driving fast and need to focus.”
“I understand. As long as you’re safe, my dear!”
When the call ended, Elenor sighed.
“I feel bad for lying, but very few people know that my grandfather is Soran Altarez. I can’t explain the situation right now.”
Elenor continued speeding through the dark forest. Her speed exceeded 176. She had lost too much time at the house—she needed to reach the laboratory as soon as possible. As she drove, a blue rift suddenly appeared directly in front of her.
“DAMN IT!”
Elenor slammed the brake and yanked the steering wheel to the left. The SUV slid into a sharp drift, narrowly skimming past the rift by mere inches. She twisted the wheel again, straightened the vehicle with practiced precision, and continued forward—but for a brief second, she glanced at the rearview mirror and let out a tense sigh.
As she sped along the asphalt, another rift caught her eye to the right, torn open within the forest. A little farther ahead, she glimpsed an orange rift on the opposite side. The deeper she drove, the more the forest around her came alive with sounds—roars, howls, and distant screams echoing through the trees.
“…This forest won’t be safe after tonight.”
After five minutes on the asphalt, she turned sharply off the road and into the forest. The SUV drifted hard to the right, leaving faint tire marks behind. The moment she left the asphalt, she tapped the vehicle’s control panel and switched to off-road mode. The tires reconfigured, becoming thicker and more rugged. The suspension lifted, the front bumper reinforced itself, and a pull bar extended outward. What had once been a luxury SUV transformed into a full-fledged off-road vehicle.
Without slowing down, Elenor skillfully guided the car through the uneven forest terrain, weaving between trees and rocks in sharp zigzags. A faint smirk crossed her lips as she thought to herself.
“Good thing I’ve been driving since I was ten. Those insane emergency drills Aunt Amanda forced on me finally paid off… though I’m still better on a motorcycle.”
As she advanced, a group of goblins suddenly appeared in her path. They stared in shock at the approaching vehicle—something they had clearly never seen before in their lives. Elenor, upon spotting them, floored the accelerator and tore straight through the group. Three goblins were crushed instantly; two others were flung aside by the impact, smashing into trees.
She didn’t look back. Biting her full lower lip, Elenor pressed on. Monsters were already pouring out of the rifts, and she still hadn’t reached the laboratory. She pushed the speed higher—but drove with even sharper focus. At that moment, a goblin leapt up along the left window, shrieking as it slammed a crude club against the glass.
Kkiiiieeeee!
A normal woman would have screamed and lost control of the wheel—but Elenor, trained since the age of ten by an A-rank hunter and a former special forces commander? She merely glanced sideways for a split second, then completely ignored the goblin. She knew perfectly well that even if it were wielding an axe or pick instead of a rotten stick, there was no chance it could break the glass. The vehicle was bulletproof, impact-resistant, and constructed from special alloys designed to withstand small to medium-sized monsters.
The goblin continued pounding on the window as Elenor drove on without diverting her attention from the road. Suddenly, her ruby-red eyes widened—but only for an instant. She immediately regained her composure, her gaze sharpening as she refocused.
Ahead of her, a seven-meter-tall troll stood roaring in her path.
Elenor reacted instantly, spinning the wheel and drifting around the troll in a tight arc. She twisted the steering again with expert timing, narrowly avoiding a tree before snapping the wheel the opposite way, sending the car sliding sideways. She regained control in a heartbeat and continued through the rough forest path.
A quick glance at the rearview mirror made her frown—the troll was chasing her.
“Tch!”
She turned her eyes forward again and growled irritably.
“Eda, how far to the target?”
[Calculating… 14 minutes 23 seconds.]
Elenor’s brow furrowed. It was impossible to go any faster in the forest. She flicked her gaze to the left—the goblin was still trying to break the window. She looked back ahead as the SUV tore through the trees.
Behind her, the troll continued its pursuit, smashing through trees that stood in its way, uprooting or shattering them with brute force. It roared in rage, the sound echoing throughout the forest.
RRRRROOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRR!
Elenor ignored the roar and pressed on. After passing another tree, her eyes suddenly widened in shock. With superhuman reflexes, she jerked the steering wheel hard. A blue rift loomed directly ahead—she drifted past it by mere centimeters, narrowly avoiding being swallowed by it.
Barely escaping, Elenor snarled internally.
“That makes two!”
After nearly falling into a rift twice—without any armor and without awakened powers—Elenor’s anger flared. She decided to vent her frustration on her grandfather, cursing him in her mind.
“You rotten old man! Why do you always have to build your laboratories in the most hidden, cursed places possible?!”
Even as she continued mentally berating him, she never took her eyes off the road. But when she felt intense vibrations on her left wrist, she issued a command to her smart watch.
“Eda, accept the call.”
The moment the call connected, the watch’s speakers erupted with the sounds of roaring, explosions, screams, and gunfire. Amid the chaos, a calm, slightly worried yet warm female voice came through.
“Sweetheart? Did you make it?”
Elenor replied evenly.
“I’m almost at the gate.”
As she spoke, she burst out of the dense forest into an open area. Towering mountains rose before her. Between bursts of gunfire, Amanda’s voice came through again.
“I see. Did you run into any trouble on the way?”
“No. I just ran over a few goblins, barely avoided two rifts, and now I’ve got a troll chasing me. Nothing too serious.”
Gunfire continued to crackle through the speaker. A monster’s roar rang out clearly, followed by several shots and then its agonized scream. Amanda roared in fury.
“YOU DAMNED BASTARDS! YOU PICKED THE WRONG WOMAN TO MESS WITH!”
Hearing that, Elenor raised an eyebrow and asked cautiously.
“…Is everything okay?”
Through the chaos of gunfire, screams, and roars, Amanda’s voice came through warm and affectionate.
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
“Of course~ I just went out hunting. We’re buying time so people can get into the shelters.”
At that moment, a male voice shouted through the commotion.
“COMMANDER! A GROUP OF OGRES HAS APPEARED ON THE RIGHT FLANK! HEIGHTS BETWEEN TEN AND TWENTY-TWO METERS—REQUESTING IMMEDIATE REINFORCEMENTS!”
Amanda’s authoritative voice rang out.
“I UNDERSTAND. DEPLOY THE 5TH AND 6TH HEAVY ARMORED INFANTRY SQUADS, AND THE 12TH, 13TH, AND 27TH TANK UNITS TO THE AREA! ESTABLISH IMMEDIATE COMMUNICATION WITH THE BASE AND REQUEST MECHS IN THE 10 TO 20 METER CLASS!”
“YES, MA’AM!”
Meanwhile, Elenor continued forward without breaking her focus. As she approached the gate, she tapped on the SUV’s panel—Omar’s vehicle—and prepared to enter the password via voice command.
Ah! This is so embarrassing!
“Password: My Cute, Little White Bunny, Elenor.”
A green light illuminated on the panel.
[Password confirmed. Voice recognition verified. Welcome, Elenor Altarez.]
Amanda couldn’t hold back her laughter.
“HAHAHAHA! That old man is still completely obsessed with his granddaughter! WATCH THE RIGHT SIDE!”
Hearing the mockery, Elenor’s eyebrows twitched wildly, her cheeks flushing red with embarrassment.
'One of the first things I’ll do in my new home is change that password!'
The gate, isolated within the rocky face of the mountain, began to open slowly. Glancing into the rearview mirror at her furious pursuer, Elenor started to slow the car. With graceful hands, she reached for the bag filled with bombs resting on the seat beside her. Keeping her left hand on the wheel and her eyes fixed on the road, she opened the bag with her right hand and carefully felt inside, recognizing the stamped markings on the bombs by touch alone.
'Let’s see… smoke bomb, grenade—ah, there they are!'
She pulled out two cylindrical, black, futuristic bombs adorned with glowing neon lights. Setting them within reach, she held the steering wheel with her right hand and lowered the left window with her left. The sudden movement startled the goblin clinging there; as the glass descended, it prepared to strike—but unfortunately for it, Elenor was faster. Keeping her right hand steady on the wheel, she slammed her left elbow hard into the goblin’s face.
The goblin was stunned. A tooth flew from its mouth, its nose shattered and bled as it fell from the window, rolling on the ground before groaning in agony and trying to stand. It glared with hatred at the retreating vehicle—then felt the ground tremble. Turning around, its world froze: a five-meter-tall troll was about to step on it. Regret flashed through its mind for attacking the car so persistently—but it was far too late. The troll crushed it underfoot. Green blood smeared against the troll’s sole, but the creature continued forward without a second thought.
At the same time, Elenor slipped on a pair of sunglasses. Her vision became slightly more difficult, but she only needed to drive straight for another 200 meters. She had already memorized the path and every obstacle along it.
Reaching to her right, she picked up one of the two bombs. She slowed the car just enough to keep a seven-meter distance between herself and the troll, then activated the bomb. Its neon lights began to blink as a countdown beep sounded. Elenor counted the detonation timing in her head.
'6… 5… 4… 3…'
As she counted, she glanced into the mirror. The ferocious troll was dangerously close—but that was exactly what she wanted. With two seconds left, Elenor hurled the bomb out of the window and immediately looked away. She grabbed the second bomb and activated it, never increasing her speed.
The bomb struck the troll square in the face, exploding in a blinding flash that painted the world white. Caught completely off guard, the troll roared in confusion, clamping its eyes shut as it slowed to a halt, rubbing its watering eyes. What it didn’t realize was that Elenor had already thrown the second bomb backward the moment she activated it—and then floored the accelerator, speeding away.
The second bomb spun through the air toward the troll’s head. Its casing bore a green skull entwined with a smoke emblem. Thick clouds of purple-and-yellow gas poured from it mid-air. The troll, still rubbing its eyes and screaming, was engulfed by the toxic fumes.
Its skin began to burn. Abandoning its eyes, the troll roared in agony and opened them, surveying its surroundings. Its green eyes were bloodshot from the flashbang. Its lungs and throat burned as it clutched its neck with both hands—the poison had already been inhaled. Its body began to shut down from the inside. Green blood spilled from its mouth.
With hatred, it looked toward the car entering the mountain. The gate was closing behind it. The silhouette inside the vehicle was barely visible, but its vision was already blurring. With a final mouthful of blood, the troll collapsed to the ground. It was dead.
As the gate sealed shut, Elenor swallowed hard at the pitiful sight.
Amanda’s worried voice came through.
“Elenor? Are you okay?”
As the entrance locked, Elenor calmly raised her left wrist and spoke into her smart watch.
“…Remind me never to get close to those poison gases again… They killed a troll in seconds… I think…”
Gunfire echoed as Amanda laughed.
“HAHAHAHA! Those gases are the deadliest poisons your grandfather, Omar, and I ever created! Anyway—did you make it?”
Elenor looked around and let out a relieved breath, speaking in a slightly melancholic tone.
“Yes… I’ve arrived at my new home.”
“Got it! I’m cutting the call—things are chaotic here! WOLVES FROM THE RIGHT, INTENSIFY FIRE! See you, sweetheart~”
Text appeared on the smart watch screen.
[Connection terminated.]
Elenor took a deep breath. She leaned her back against the SUV, tilted her head back, and stared blankly at the laboratory ceiling, her beautiful ruby eyes unmoving as she murmured softly,
“…Home, sweet home, huh.”
She stood there for several minutes, letting her body process the intense adrenaline of the past hour and a half. Placing a hand over her chest, she felt her heart pounding like a drum—not from fear, but from exhilaration.
“Hahaha… That was fun.”
With a faint grin, Elenor closed the SUV door, slipped her hands into her pockets, and walked forward with a straight posture. The sharp sound of her heeled boots echoed through the hangar with each step.
She headed calmly toward the inner sections of the laboratory—then suddenly stopped.
'Better take precautions. Even if my grandfather’s labs are secure thanks to the mountain structure, an incident of this magnitude could still cause a rift to open inside.'
Turning back, Elenor went to the SUV’s trunk and tapped the touch panel. The trunk opened slowly. She examined the weapons, first taking a military belt and fastening it around her slim yet strong waist. The metallic silver belt, accented with red neon lights, locked magnetically; dormant lights flared to life along the clasp.
She then inspected the pistols and selected the most powerful one—a .50 caliber handgun with a twelve-round capacity, dark silver in color and decorated with blue neon lines. The weapon had a cold silver finish, its edges softened yet overall sharp and angular. The barrel wasn’t round like a conventional pistol’s but polygonal, heavy, and block-like. Thin blue neon lines ran along the barrel from both sides, embedded into the metal, glowing steadily and with restraint.
The grip was simple yet formidable—no unnecessary protrusions. Its matte surface was smooth, fitting perfectly into the palm, ergonomic without being flashy. The trigger guard was thick and angular, reinforcing the gun’s heavy character. Instead of a traditional slide, the top featured a single integrated upper casing, giving the weapon an unusual, almost industrial appearance.
Elenor lifted the gun and briefly checked its condition, ejecting the magazine to inspect the rounds.
'Hmm… standard caliber rounds. Useful against humans and monsters below E+ level, but not effective for C-rank and above… Where are the other rounds?'
She opened the bag containing the magazines, examining each one carefully.
'Let’s see… rifle mags, no… not these… Ah! Here they are—the .50 caliber pistol mags!'
She pulled out several crates, each roughly fifty centimeters wide and tall.
'Let’s take a look—explosive rounds, poison rounds, freezing rounds, incendiary rounds, shock rounds… Wow… I never realized Aunt Amanda had such a diverse arsenal. So which should I take?'
Elenor studied the ammunition carefully, each type possessing a unique function. Explosive rounds, as the name suggested, reacted with the target’s blood to trigger internal mechanisms, detonating the target from the inside.
'Absolutely not. The chance of monsters inside is low, but if there are any and I use these, I’ll be the one cleaning up scattered organs and blood.'
She set the explosive rounds aside. Her elegant hand moved to the box of poison rounds—these burst lightly on impact, releasing toxins—but she rejected them as well.
'No. Even with filtration systems, I don’t want to deal with poisons in a closed space—especially if that space is my home.'
A freezing round was ammunition containing a mixture with cryogenic properties; upon impact, it instantly froze the area it struck. Rather than killing outright, it was designed to slow down monsters by severely restricting their movement.
'This will do. There are also shock and armor-piercing rounds… Freezing is the best choice. Shock rounds could cause unintended interference with the laboratory’s systems, and armor-piercing rounds could damage the lab if they hit the wrong place. The ideal option is freezing ammunition.'
Elenor picked up the box marked with a frost symbol and opened it, taking out a magazine and loading it into the weapon. The gun’s neon lights shifted to an icy blue hue. She took the weapon’s special holster and brought it close to her belt, touching a tactile button on the belt; the holster snapped into place, locking on with magnetic force. After placing the gun inside, she took a military knife from another bag and affixed it horizontally to the back of her belt in the same magnetic manner. Then she picked up a shotgun and loaded it with freezing ammunition as well.
'Alright. That took four minutes. Now it’s time to take a look at my new home… I wish I could wear my combat armor… Being like this makes me feel naked.'
Elenor let out a deep sigh. Even though she was armed, the lack of protective gear made her feel exposed. Over the past two years, her body had continued to develop—her height was already 1.75 meters, and her chest and hips had grown slightly and were still developing. Because of this, her combat armor no longer fit. She shook her head and moved forward, tapping the touch panel of the first door. The door slid open. Elenor stepped inside, advancing as the sound of her heeled boots echoed down the corridor.
It had been a long time since Elenor had been here. The last time was thirteen years ago, and she had never entered beyond the hangar. She loved her grandfather—she truly did—but her family had died because of his work, and that fact had haunted her for a long time. Besides her exceptional intelligence, Elenor possessed another trait: a photographic memory. Normally, this would have been a gift, but for Elenor, it had been a curse for many years.
On the night her family was killed, they were all eating together when the assassins struck. Her family, her uncle and his family, her grandmother, her older brother, her older sister, her cousins—every one of them was murdered right before her eyes. If Omar had not arrived in time, Elenor would have died as well.
Because of her photographic memory, Elenor still remembered the massacre with painful clarity—every detail, every second. She shut herself off from the world for a long time, isolating herself completely. But through Omar’s persistence and the love of his family, Elenor finally overcame the trauma at the age of seventeen.
After passing through the door, she found herself in a corridor and noticed four doors on each side. She stopped, closed her eyes, and slowed her breathing. Carefully, she listened to her surroundings, searching for any foreign sounds. She listened to every faint click and every hum, waiting for any sign that something was wrong. She stayed on alert like that for a full minute, but nothing seemed out of place.
Elenor opened her ruby-red eyes. She raised her shotgun and advanced in a ready stance. First, she pressed herself against the wall beside the first door on the left.
'Everything looks fine, but I won’t relax until I’m sure. I need to reach the control room and put the lab on maximum security as soon as possible. I don’t want to leave without checking every room.'
She touched the control panel, and the door opened. Elenor entered cautiously, aiming her shotgun as she quickly scanned left and right. The room she stepped into was nearly empty. There were two control panels on the walls and four robotic arms. In the center of the room stood a large drone—ten meters wide and ten meters long—along with four smaller rocket-equipped drones, each shorter than a meter but wider in build. The room was small, but not cramped.
In fact, this laboratory was an underground residence frequently used by Soren. At the same time, it served as a shelter for Omar’s family and Elenor in emergencies like this. Although designed for research, it was not as large as the other laboratories.
Elenor carefully surveyed the area, moving with caution. Her finger stayed near the trigger, her breathing calm and steady. She checked every potential hiding spot in the room. After a few seconds, she let out a relaxed breath.
'Room clear.'
She lowered the barrel slightly, keeping the weapon at chest level as she advanced. Her gaze lingered on the two drones.
'Hmm… These are cargo drones.'
Curious, Elenor approached the larger one but did not open it, only inspecting its exterior. Then she moved to the smaller one and examined it more closely.
'Unlike the big one, this one’s engine is still very warm. This is my grandfather’s fastest cargo drone—so it must have arrived recently. This must be the special device he mentioned.'
After that thought, she glanced back at the larger drone.
'This one must be my gift… I just hope it’s not something overly excessive again. The last thing he gave me was a heavy-class armor—five meters tall, completely covered in weapons… Honestly, I thought it was a next-generation mech. It was basically a walking tank. Thankfully, the Emperor confiscated it! I still don’t understand what he expected me to do with that thing. It was far too cumbersome for me.'
She sighed deeply as another unpleasant memory surfaced.
'…Fighter jets, helicopters, space jets, heavy armored trucks, a spy smartwatch designed to watch and listen to me, a security drone that wiped out an entire street because a man harassed me… Grandpa, I’m begging you, please let it be something normal this time… At least don’t let it be weapon-focused!'
Shaking her head, Elenor refocused and exited the cargo room.
'I won’t open these now. I can’t afford to get distracted—first, I need to explore the lab.'
She walked straight ahead toward the opposite room and, with the same caution, opened the door and stepped inside. What greeted her was a room filled with cages. Elenor froze in surprise and entered carefully.
'Why are there so many cages?'
She quickly checked the room and confirmed it was clear, then began to examine it more closely. Inside the cages were traces of scorched marks and liquids of different colors. Elenor leaned in for a closer look.
'…This is goblin blood. And the blue one over there is probably kaiju blood… So this is where Grandpa kept the monsters he studied.'
Elenor moved to a cabinet and opened it. Inside were various tools—two sniper rifles of different sizes and six ammunition cases. She examined the cases.
'These aren’t for killing… Sedative rounds, stun rounds, paralysis rounds… Looks like I’ve found Grandpa’s hunting room.'
She opened the next cabinet. Inside were several intriguing capture devices—two weapons of different sizes, one resembling a bazooka and the other a shotgun.
'These are net launchers… I might make use of this room in the future.'
Elenor opened the final cabinet. Inside was a wide-mouthed weapon, along with thick, high-tech ring-shaped devices. She picked one up and examined it closely, her fingers brushing over the metallic surface.
'Shock collars… Looks like Grandpa used these to keep monsters calm and obedient… They might come in handy later.'
After placing the collar back into the cabinet, Elenor turned her attention to the panels.
…No. First, I should secure the laboratory, then settle in. I’ll be staying here for a long time—I’ll have plenty of time to look through the files later.
After leaving the cage section, Elenor turned right and advanced toward the next room, entering it with the same level of caution. She quickly scanned the surroundings.
“Clear…”
She examined the room. It was filled with various research instruments. On the right side was a glass wall, and behind it was a room covered in claw marks. On the left were assorted tools, plants, medicines, and chemical materials. The laboratory was orderly.
'This place seems to be connected to the adjacent room… Looks like Grandpa examined monsters and conducted experiments here… That makes sense. By keeping the monsters closer to the outside, he created a safer environment. That way, even if a monster escaped, it wouldn’t damage the core areas. And since it’s next to the hangar, he could easily move captured monsters directly into cages… I’ll investigate these two rooms later.'
Elenor turned around, exited the room, and headed to the final room in this corridor—the one directly across. She opened the door and stepped inside. The room contained two hospital beds and various medical supplies.
'This is the infirmary. I hope I won’t have to use it often.'
Leaving the room, Elenor turned left and walked toward the door at the end of the corridor to enter the next area. She touched the panel to open it. At the sight before her, Elenor froze in surprise, her beautiful lips parting slightly.
A garden lay before her. At its center was a circular pool made of natural stone, four meters in diameter. Four different paths split the area, dividing it into four sections. The first two sections were gardens filled with various plants. The two sections farther ahead included, on the right, a resting area with a gazebo and flowering bushes, while the other side was an empty space. Sunlight filled the interior, and the sky was visible above.
After quickly scanning the area, Elenor analyzed it.
'Width: 12 meters. Length: 15 meters. Height: 9 meters. A total area of 180 square meters… Grandpa, is this what you meant by a greenhouse?'
She took her sunglasses from her pocket and put them on, lifting her head to look at the sun, her eyes narrowing.
'Hmm… A kind of glass dome powered by a sunstone, combined with a holographic sky and lighting system that creates an artificial atmosphere… There’s probably a control mechanism that allows all four seasons to be simulated at will… I’d expect nothing less from you, Grandpa.'
Shaking her head, Elenor moved forward. Directly ahead stood a small yet luxurious two-story house. She nodded with a forced smile.
'The only person who would build something like this inside a mountain is my grandfather. This must be his summer house—an absolute madman… This was probably the only laboratory he designed as a shelter… And the reason is me. I survived that night, but Grandpa didn’t—and it doesn’t look like he ever will. He still blames himself.'
Elenor stepped closer to the central pool, looked inside, and murmured in disappointment.
“I guess expecting edible fish was a mistake… After all, this is a laboratory, not a farm.”
She turned back and examined the plants on both sides.
'These are rift plants. I’ve never heard of some of them, but that one over there should be a Silver Rose—mana-restoring for awakened individuals, and also a component used in the liquid inside explosive rounds.'
She bent down and inhaled its scent.
'Smells nice. There are a lot of plants here—some of them I recognize as medicinal.'
Elenor then examined the plants on the opposite side.
'I recognize some of these too—plants used for poisons and sedative mixtures… Looks like I’ll have plenty to keep myself busy.'
She moved toward the natural pool. There were doors on both the left and right sides of the area. Raising her shotgun, she advanced to the left and entered the room. Inside, she found an area roughly half the size of the greenhouse. There were various exercise machines, a simulation room, and weapons used for close-combat training.
'This is probably Uncle Omar’s training area.'
Elenor carefully surveyed the space.
'This place is clean as well.'
