B2 | Chapter 26

  Aqua

  Huh…

  Well that’s one enormous jellyfish.

The thing is over three hundred meters tall and is emitting purple electricity in a radius of about thirty meters around it. Shocking anything that gets close to it before dragging everything into its body to devour it afterwards.

  As for the monster’s level?

It’s now level two hundred and thirty nine. Having leveled up once since it was last recorded apparently.

Of course, the guides who took me here are long gone since they’d die just from getting this close to it.

After all, the electricity may not be directly entering the area around where I am, but it is still filling the water all around me. Seeing as I’m in, well, water.

Interestingly enough though, it doesn’t seem to be affecting me at all. Like it can’t get through my scales.

Which implies it’s probably a physical natural attack. Not magic.

A faint grin spreads across my face at the realization that I might actually be able to use this giant jellyfish. Since if its electricity is a physical power and not magical then I should be able to use it even when the thing is made into an abyssal servant.

So I summon dozens of abyssal servants all over the water before sending them straight at the jellyfish. With each one completely ignoring the electricity in the process.

Then they begin chewing on and slashing at the jellyfish’s jelly-like flesh.

Only to not even scratch it.

In fact, their attacks straight up bounce off instead of doing anything. With some of them sinking in before being bounced off.

Kind of like poking a balloon.

Except that it’s an unpoppable one.

  Huh. Well, so much for…

My thoughts pause for a second as an idea comes to mind. Then I just shrug and decide to try it out.

At which point I summon the dead maw above the giant jellyfish. Where it then begins to sink down right on top of the jellyfish.

I watch the dead maw’s weight gradually push down on the jellyfish while the claws of its crab-like legs begin to sink deeper and deeper into the jellyfish’s body. With the electricity just running all throughout the dead maw’s body without any effect.

The valla begins to flail around the little tendrils sticking from its lower side where electricity is bouncing back and forth between each tendril, but it doesn’t manage to actually do anything.

Other than send electricity all around it in a mad attack.

But all that really does is make me back away when the electricity grows strong enough in density that it actually begins to hurt me too.

I continue watching as the dead maw gradually sinks deeper and deeper into the jellyfish with its weight alone.

All the way until its claws finally pop the jellyfish, making a purple liquid begin rushing out into the water around it.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

A liquid that is filled with electricity.

But once again, the undead dead maw doesn’t care about any of that as it continues sinking. Popping more holes in the valla before eventually killing it just with its weight.

  Huh.

Well, that worked out rather well.

I glance at my System Messages.

[You have killed a creature underwater. Apex Predator of the Depths has been activated, increasing your REGEN stat by one.]

That was a lot of levels for how simple that battle was.

I yawn before trying to move closer, only to end up backing away again when the electricity from its blood only grows stronger as more blood floods out of its body.

After all, my dead maw servant is still sinking into said body.

So I dismiss the abyssal servant to make that stop. Then I use Abyssal Ruler to extract its blueprint.

  Only to fail.

My eyes narrow a little as I try again, only to fail again.

  And again.

This isn’t going well so far…

I try for a fourth time before failing again.

  Not well at all.

I glance behind me to see some of the guides including the tour guide heading in this direction. No doubt sensing the valla’s death.

Then I turn back towards the valla’s corpse as it begins to sink in the water.

I take a deep breath before finally using Abyssal Ruler one last time on the massive jellyfish.

  And failing again.

  Well, shit.

I guess I won’t be getting the valla as an abyssal servant after all.

With that thought in mind, I glance at the chat.

  [Well that battle was anticlimactic.]

  [Definitely.]

[I was expecting some grand battle against a lightning jellyfish! Not a simple crushing…]

[Why do you think the valla didn’t eat the dead maw?]

[Probably because the dead maw is, well, dead.]

[True. Who would want to eat an undead after all?]

[I think it’s safe to assume the valla most likely senses the living around it. And that’s how it determines what’s food and what’s not.]

[So you think the valla didn’t realize the dead maw was a thing attacking it? That it just thought the dead maw servant was some object that fell on its head?]

  [That’s a sad way to die…]

  Huh. That makes sense.

The thing died without even realizing it was being killed by something.

Which is one sad way to die.

Anyway, I stuff the thing into a storage ring.

At least I can turn this over to a crafter to see if I can get anything out of it.

With that thought in mind, I turn towards the approaching tour guide and his friends. Where I find them looking at me and where the dead valla was just at before entering my storage ring in awe.

  Not to mention fear.

But I’ve grown used to these looks by now.

More importantly, when I look downwards, I find numerous spider fish beginning to slowly make their way up from the deep. Clearly coming to investigate the valla’s death.

But when they see me, they all instantly turn around and begin heading back into the deep.

Hmm. I’m not strong enough to take on that creature yet.

  The parent of those spiders.

So it’s best to go find some more prey to hunt in other oceans before going after it.

I’d also like to get some more higher level abyssal servants to join me when I do target the quasi.

It’s too bad I didn’t manage to get the valla’s blueprint, but there are always other monsters to hunt and get blueprints from. So it’s fine.

With that in mind, I turn towards the tour guide and state, “Let’s head back. The valla is dead so the immediate threat here is gone. I’ll come back later on when I’m stronger to deal with the quasi.”

The tour guide numbly nods his head as I begin swimming away. Only for him and the other guides with him to follow after me only a few seconds later.

I wonder what monster I’ll be fighting next…
