Naturally, the gate was guarded by… guards. What wasn’t natural, however, was their numbers.
In most stories there were two. Maybe four if the author felt generous. Occasionally a small guardhouse nearby held another pair resting between shifts.
This place? The rare version.
Exactly as described — but multiplied.
Two guards stood directly at the entrance with pens and a thick leather-bound ledger, carefully writing down names and reasons for entry. Each of them had an escort stationed beside them, small shields integrated into their forearms and swords resting at their waists.
And to our left stood a modest but sturdy building. Not large, but positioned perfectly: far enough not to crowd the gate, close enough that a squad could rush out instantly if anyone tried something stupid.
Efficient, unexpectedly professional aaand slightly intimidating.
Good job, city.
( ???? ˙?˙ )
Soon enough, it was our turn.
We stepped forward.
One of the guards immediately saluted Captain Zarra. Appraisal quietly informed me he was Level 24 — roughly a third of her strength. Still, respectable.
It was time for identification!
I was sure Zarra would respond with stern professionalism, instead, she reached into her generous cleavage and pulled out a wallet.
…That was unexpected.
She caught my expression instantly.
“Ah! Do not misunderstand,” she said quickly, cheeks turning red beneath her composure. “It is simply the most accessible place to keep it.”
Honestly?
Fair.
That armor clearly didn’t have pockets. And if it did, they were hidden with military-grade secrecy.
Still, I had to tease her, even if just for a little.
All I did was widen my dumb grin, nothing more, and the effect was instant.
"Ehehehehe."
Her armor was steaming.
“Captain Zarra!” the gate guard said, interrupting my playtime. “You’re well known. Verification isn’t necessary.”
“No,” she replied firmly. “Procedure must be followed.”
Her tone shifted — and her beautiful, stressed expression was replaced by authoritative professionalism.
“Please use the citizenship code. This girl here—”
Girl? What girl?
…Oh.
Right.
Me.
Still adjusting to that isekai shit...
“—has no registration,” Zarra continued. “She is a... wanderer. I am taking responsibility for her entry under my name.”
AKA; keeping me under surveillance and nothing more. I'm pretty sure she doesn't like me that way... yet.
The guard looked at me with tears in his eyes, muttering something through sniffs. "I know that pain too! I was once just like you, stay strong!"
"Haaaa? What's that supposed to mean?"
He ignored my question and quickly skipped several pages before reaching the back of the ledger. Unlike the earlier pages, these contained structured forms — official documentation boxes filled with dense legal text.
I could have read it all. I chose happiness instead.
Let’s just call it a legal registration form.
“Name?” the guards asked in unison.
“Diana,” I answered flatly, fairly certain I had already said that multiple times today.
“Full name.”
Ah.
Right.
Just as I opened my mouth to proudly declare Diana Zephyr, Zarra leaned closer and whispered into my ear.
“Eeeeeek!”
I jolted upright.
Apparently I was sensitive there.
“If you lack a surname,” she murmured softly, “you may temporarily use mine.”
Oh?
Ohhh.
Don’t mind if I do. Zephyr could remain my secret weapon for later.
“…Okay,” I said, trying to sound confused instead of delighted.
Zarra gave 1 silver coin to the guard and a short nod.
He began writing, ink scratched across parchment.
And just like that my temporary permit was issued. From that moment onward, within the city records…
I became known as: Diana von Gaahr.
Ah, footwear!
The guard noticed my condition and offered me a spare from that hut of theirs.
Similar to those I've reincarnated with.
"How nice of you!"
(╥﹏╥)
"Thank you very much!"

? A statue of a blindfolded girl!?
A massive monument stood at the very heart of the city. She knelt in silent prayer, hands clasped gently into prayer, head bowed as if listening to something only she could hear. Stone tears streamed down her cheeks, carved so carefully they almost seemed ready to fall.
Despite the stillness of the sculpture, sorrow radiated from it.
Fresh bouquets lay piled at its base — mostly roses, their colors bright against the pale stone. All seemed brand-new. People actively cleaned it of the old ones, right before my eyes.
The girl was clearly in pain. She looked tortured, but the atmosphere around, wasn’t mournful.
Children laughed as they ran in wide circles around the statue, their footsteps echoing across the plaza. One nearly tripped, another chased after him, and somewhere nearby a parent reunited with their son to get dinner.
Life moved freely around grief. The blindfolded girl prayed endlessly in silence, while the living carried on beneath her watch.
...
One of the children triggered my Bestiary.
…What?
Nononono!
Panic slammed into me instantly.
I opened the Stat Window with trembling focus, thoughts spiraling.
“I just arrived in this world—I do not want to be registered in some criminal files!”
The window expanded before my eyes.
I searched frantically for the threat—
—and found the culprit; the child with the playing ball.
【 New Bestiary Record 】
【 Domestic Slime 】
Classification: Domestic Slime (Juvenile/Common)
Slimes are simple creatures born during mornings after rainfall.
Mana-infused dew gathers upon flowers during the night. When droplets slide off the leaves, they accumulate enough mana to awaken into living slime entities. Most fail to fully form before reaching the ground and die from the impact.
Slimes are considered natural cleaners of forests.
They wander aimlessly until encountering rotting fruit, organic waste, or corpses. Using their innate ability Dissolve, they break down and consume decaying matter, recycling nutrients back into the environment.
Trait development occurs randomly.
Some slimes evolve after a single successful consumption, while others remain unchanged even after dozens of feedings.
Acquired traits mirror consumed material:
Poison → the body becomes both venomous and poisonous.
Animal remains → partial anatomical mimicry.
Bird remains → variants capable of winged flight or beak attacks.
However, these are rare outcomes.
Most slimes follow a different evolutionary path:
Domestication.
Domesticated slimes become denser and more elastic, resembling soft bouncing spheres. Children commonly play with them due to their harmless nature.
Their Dissolve ability adapts for household use, allowing them to clean dirt, stains, and organic waste safely.
As a result, slimes are widely kept as domestic helpers.
I slowly lowered the window with an exaggeratedly long sigh of relief.
Then looked back at the child's toy.
The kid giggled while tossing a small translucent blob into the air. The slime bounced happily when it landed, wobbling back toward its owner like an excited puppy made of jelly.
“…I want one,” I whispered reverently.
“Y-you want a child?!” Zarra blurted, face instantly turning crimson.
"Huh? No! I was talking about the jelly-roomba," I said, pointing at the little human's toy-pet.
She blinked.
“What is a rumba?” Zarra asked beside me.
I paused. Very, very slowly, I turned toward her, deeply annoyed. <(? _??)>
“…A sacred cleaning spirit from my homeland.”
She nodded thoughtfully.
“I see. Your culture sounds efficient.”
"Riiiight?"
