Chapter Six – “Race of Despair”

And he took off. The shockwave was even greater than Mako’s. He left the sea behind him, furious. The wind blew his spiky hair back which clearly revealed his eyes.

As he gained speed, he felt lighter, the water becoming solid under his feet, each step made it even easier to run as he gained even more speed. He felt a small sense of freedom as if he owed nothing to anyone.

The wind whistled in his ears, he was practically horizontal, his head looking at the horizon, his sharp nose helped him maintain a somewhat aerodynamic shape.

He ran on the seemingly endless ocean for about a minute, each step felt more like a leap towards something new. He finally caught up to the tiny hybrid who was still running frantically as if his life depended on it (it did).

He was about to attack. But then he thought:

“Where is he going? I was gonna catch up eventually and he couldn’t run forever. The transformation heats your body temperature and can kill you if the body keeps pumping this amount of adrenaline constantly for too long. Let’s see where he brings me.

He followed him for a bit till certain icebergs were visible.

“How did I not realise? I’m... ‘Home’. Such a little pussy. I’ll show him that all this is useless.”

They both continued, wrecking the icebergs, killing the animals due to the hypersonic booms.

When both hybrids reached land, the tiny one started yelling, “MEG, MEGALODON, NOT DEADDD!” He tumbled on the ground, face first into the snow, he broke his neck on impact, he spun wildly in the air as he crash landed, a huge crater forming, the nearby snow cleared.

“It finally fucking got to him.” He stopped abruptly, sliding a few hundred meters, stirring up snow around him.

He walked to Mako and flipped him over.

  “Ugh. Not delectable.”

The heat of the transformation and the constant air hitting his face melted it off. It was red flesh, steaming. His eye sockets were empty and it made his face (or what was left of it) look like a red skull.

Sharkz thought to himself : I need information about this ‘Meg situation. I just found out that the so-called greats were my old companions. Why would they kill me? And they’ve never told me about any Megalodon species, only that they were wiped out by the ice age.

“His weak point isn't his head, it's his heart. I’ll take that and get rid of the rest.”

He ripped Mako’s heart out with a single, precise hit.

  “Thanatos apo pageto.”

When those words were spoken, the hybrid's remains were instantly frozen, then joined the snow.

The heart he was holding got surrounded by water in the shape of a cube. The water froze encasing the heart in see-through ice, keeping it perfectly intact.

He paused for a moment, the heart in his hand while processing a thought : If I was a supposed megalodon, and if they were wiped out by the cold, and he brought me here, was he trying to weaken me?

  “Alright. Let’s talk to mother.”

Each step he took left a footprint in the snow, his tail swiftly erasing them.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

He arrived at a palace, made out of wood and ice. He stood there in front of a huge door where two guards stood, each holding a spear.

They were bare chested, their lower bodies covered in polar bear pelt. They were pretty big, their tails were grey, full of scars.

“N’ who do we have here ?” The guard with yellow hair asked.

  “Queen’s son.”

“Stop bullshitting us, He left two thousand years ago to go explore the world or whatever the fuck he said.”

“Yeah sick ‘lad I agree, he was also ‘gainst the empire. Said we should value life and enjoy it.” The one with the helmet said. It was a viking helmet, the horns made out of ice, bits of silver sparkled in it.

“Why the fuck do you have a British accent ? And stop making me seem like a hero. Anyways–”

“If you're the queen's son. Who did you leave with.” the yellow haired one started eyeing him.

Sharkz was visibly annoyed. “Stop eyefucking me. I don't have time for your bullshit questions. Here, I defeated one of your warriors, he’ll tell you.”

He threw Mako’s heart on the ground, the ice around it broke and he started regenerating. Blood vessels formed around it, his lungs forming first then his spinal cord.

It all got much quicker from there, the nerves formed around the bones, muscles covering them, and finally the skin covered everything up.

“Where am I?” Mako was dizzy, he could barely stand and was clearly disoriented.

“Isouros? How ? You’ve never lost a fight!”

“I thought you guys didn’t do names.”

“Damn it! I can’t believe I lost! FUUUUCK!!” The roar sent a shockwave briefly paralyzing the two guards. As he calmed down, he turned around to see the reason for his first loss. His eyes widened. “No.” He disappeared before any sort of altercation took place, his presence faded instantly.

  “Pussy. Anyways about the names?”

“They’re for worthy warriors, not scum like you.” The yellow haired guard spit on Sharkz’ feet.

His eyes flashed blue, and so did the guard’s.

“Xanthos don’t. The queen will kill us if we destroy the castle with her in it–”

“Thanks for telling me she’s here.” Our ‘Meg blasted the palace doors open and he looked at his mother, both of their eyes fighting each other.

The guards fled, scared of getting scolded by the queen.

  “Hello, mother.”

“I knew the moment Isouros was gone you two were going to meet. He was the only one that could recognise a megalodon.”

“What’s this talk about megalodons? I’ve had it up to my ass with it. I’m a great white, just like you. Besides, you said they’ve been gone for ten thousand years.”

“You’ve always stood out, you know. You were faster than the makarri infants, and as strong as a regular adult.”

“Bullshit. Maybe it’s just a genetic defect. My tail only became yellowish recently. You know how our genes are weird, they show up late n stuff. Besides, how would Mako know that megalodons have yellow tails? And don’t they have brown hair? They’re also pretty darn big and I’m more on the smaller side, like I'm not even a meter eighty.”

“You suck at giving names you know.”

“I used to be part of the Megapomachi before I left. Better than Karch. The strongest. What’s my name huh? You’ve always called me son. They’re based on our races aren’t they? The most powerful of each race gets a name based on that race. And other powerful warriors get names based on their personal traits—”

  “??Otodus. That’s your name.”

There was a moment of silence, the queen sat on the ice throne covered in animal pelt, skulls laid around her in a circle, her yellow-white hair shimmered.

Sharkz was thinking. The tail, the name and that pussy running away. Can it really be? I can tell races apart by tasting their blood. Humans, Hybrids, all of that. I’ve already tasted Carias’ blood. And it tastes the same as mine, even though she has a grey tail. She wants me to know. But she also doesn’t. Maybe she thinks I’ll spill it and tell everyone. Anyways, time to piss her off.

  “Give me your arm. Mother.”

  “What for?” Her eyes narrowed.

  “You’ll see.”

  “Alright— No! Fuck!”

He had already ripped it off her, without asking. It looked like he hadn't moved but as if it just appeared in his hand. He took a bite, the skin elastic, snapped back like a rubber band. All this while looking his mother straight in the eyes. “Yep. Sooooo I guess I’m telling everyone that–”

She shrieked, a high pitched scream, shattering her throne, stirring up air in the throne room “MEGAPOMACHI!”

Sixteen hybrids each of a different race burst into the castle, breaking the ice walls. The whole thing fell to ruins, the wood supports failing to hold up.
