Chapter 5: The Sunday That Shifted

Morning light spilled softly through the curtains.

  January 15th. 6:00 a.m.

  Tring… Tring… Tring…

The alarm clock cried into the quiet room.

Suzie groaned, her fingers blindly searching for the noise. She slammed the button and sank back into her pillow. Sunday. The one sacred day she refused to respect time.

But peace never lasted long in her house.

At exactly nine, Mrs. Hale's voice thundered from downstairs.

"Suzie! It's already nine o'clock! Even the dog is better than you!"

Suzie winced and slowly pushed herself up. Her messy hair fell over her eyes as she yawned. Suddenly, her sleepiness vanished.

  "Knight…"

  She rushed toward the cupboard.

  Empty.

  She checked the cardboard box.

  Empty.

  Her heartbeat skipped.

Without even fixing her hair, she ran downstairs, scanning every corner of the house before stepping into the garden.

  And there—

Under the golden morning sun, the little Siberian husky was jumping clumsily, barking at a tiny butterfly dancing in the air.

  The sight was too innocent.

  Too pure.

  Suzie's tense expression melted.

Knight leaped again, missing the butterfly, rolling onto the grass dramatically.

"You are not supposed to roam around like this," Suzie whispered sharply, walking toward him. "You can transform anytime."

  The husky froze mid-pounce.

Knight turned his blue eyes toward her and spoke in a low voice only she could hear.

"In our city… we don't have creatures like this. Sorry."

After making sure no one had seen anything strange, she gently placed him back into the cardboard box and returned inside to finish her breakfast.

Before she could escape, her mother handed her a grocery list.

  "Bring everything on this."

  Suzie nodded reluctantly.

She bent near the box and whispered, "Don't go anywhere until I come back. And no transforming."

Knight tilted his head as if offended.

  Suzie left the house.

  ---

A few minutes later, someone knocked on the door.

  Marie.

  Suzie's childhood friend.

Now a veterinary doctor at St. John's Hospital.

Marie had always loved animals more than people. Her gentle smile and sharp eyes gave her a unique presence.

She stepped inside and greeted Mrs. Hale warmly.

"Suzie went to the market," her mother explained casually. "And there's a husky upstairs. She bought from his friend recently."

  Marie's eyes sparkled.

  "A husky?"

  Without waiting, she climbed upstairs.

Inside Suzie's room, the little husky was happily playing with a sponge ball, pushing it with his nose and pouncing like a cub.

  Marie's heart melted instantly.

  "Oh my… you're exactly what I wanted."

She sat beside him and gently stroked his fur.

  ---

Meanwhile, Suzie was walking back home with grocery bags in both hands.

  Halfway down the street—

  She saw him.

  Mr. Jack.

The police officer who had warned her yesterday about Knight's strange behavior.

He was standing near a stall, scanning the road.

  Suzie froze.

Her grip tightened around the bags.

If he saw her acting suspiciously again—

Without hesitation, she turned and took the longer route home.

By the time she reached the house, her palms were sweaty.

She handed the grocery bags to her mother and rushed upstairs.

"Can you bring me some water?" she asked quickly.

Her mother nodded and returned with a glass.

Suzie drank fast, her heart still unsettled.

  Then her mother spoke casually—

  "Marie came."

The water slipped from Suzie's mouth.

  "What?"

  "She came after you left…"

  Suzie's chest tightened.

"She said that she need husky for some time… so she took him to her home."

The glass fell from Suzie's hand.

  Water splashed across the floor.

  For a moment—

  Silence.

Then her heart began to pound violently.

  Knight.

  Taken.

And if Marie discovers the truth—

  Suzie didn't wait another second.

  She ran toward the stairs.

Sunday had just turned into a disaster.
