Ice is Strong, Tapu Wrath

The rest of the week and part of the next was marked by slowly worsening weather across all Alola. The day after Tapu Kokos' visit had the students asking all the questions about the meeting, there wasn't much to say, it was either classified(island) business or things already mentioned to the students, they were still hype about it for a while. That hype extended to the new beings shadowing Crieg, it gave excellent points of lessons for the duration. Monday everyone stayed at the school since the weather became too harsh to travel, the mood had been falling. Lusamine had the foresight to leave young Lillie with Hala before the cut off. The start of Thursday, Criegs' third week in this world, the Tapu attacked Ula'ula.

Guzma, Plumeria, and Gladion in particular among the students watched in horror. Even with distance and being obscured the storm the island shook, thunder stuck near continuously, far more rain fell, winds tore at island, even a tsunami washed over the island. Creig could give no words of comfort, he stood with them, between Guzma and Plumeria, hand on a shoulder each, Gladion gripped his shirt. A few people tried to walk over in anger, but Creig glared them away before they even got close, not that he stopped everyone, come came to watch themselves, or give comfort as they could. Hala eventually came over and chased off the harassers, he had gotten tired of being a mobile complaints department, now Hala glared them away.

It was deep evening when the attack stopped, leaving only a mild rain, Creig guided the three back to the school pointing out that the actual fallout wouldn't be known till tomorrow. When they got back to the school Guzma looked to Creig.

"you know why it happened" Guzma pretty much accused.

"I probably know, emphasis on the probably" Creig solemnly answered. Gladion and Plumeria looked at him in shock.

"With your otherworlder knowledge you couldn't stop it?" Guzma was getting worked up.

Creig sighed "To know a likely outcome and to convince another to change paths are two different things, some paths have been changed, are being changed by people who want to change, but I have no power over their choice."

Guzma shook, body and eyes separately, after a bit he hit the wall. "What is the probable" Guzma asked through clenched teeth, Plumeria checking his hand for injury.

"Ultra beasts are meant to be repelled, not summoned as weapons of war" the three went towards denial, their legs giving out, not believing that anyone they knew would break such an important law of the islands.

With Houls' help Creig got the three fed, even got them some coco to help the feels. The rest of the class was supportive, and including Nate and Rosa the students slept in a pile. Kakui almost made the mistake of taking the kids to the beach the next day for a treasure hunt, Creig stopped him. "Flotsam kids shouldn't see" confused Kakui, the pokemon world just wasn't used to disasters, Creig took him aside and explained, nobody argued the change of mind when they saw Kakuis' pale, horrified, slightly green face.

The afternoon had a major gathering, announcing what and why had happened, both people and pokemon were in attendance. No idle chatter was made as the community leaders and totems stood watching the crowd while Hala and Tapu Koko took stage. The Tapu failed to stop the summoning committed by the rouge Kahuna, Mohn, for now, was gone in Ultra Space, Lusamine hospitalized, poisoned by Nihilego. The warriors were near wiped out, the Kahuna definitely dead any not in the know were not punished, and both Tapu Koko and Hala made it clear they should not be punished. Creig hadn't expected the destruction event and Lusamine event to be related, and certainly not that one caused the other. Nanu was appointed as Kahuna in place of the removed one, an outsider being appointed caused a stir, no one could actually argue since it was the will of the Tapu, but they weren't sure of the implications.

Creig could guess, Nanu was both like, yet unlike a warrior. He followed a code to follow strictly for himself, but was a reluctant enforcer on others. His laid back attitude was ultimately a trick, when the chips were actually on the table, he would act. The three students from Ula'ula were devastated all over, they had been holding out hope that it wasn't the case. Having someone they trusted betray them (in expectations for two, in actual backstabbing for the other), be branded a high criminal, die, and be replaced was a massive amount to take in. And despite Hala and Tapu Koko absolving them, people might still treat the kids as if they bore the sins of the punished, for being tangentially related to the incident. Acerola, the former Kahunas' was also brought to Hala to temporarily be taken care of, alongside Lillie.

Creig and N helped with...... cleanup. Creig was one of the few to continually stack bodies, it was too much for most, even pokemon. He only had Toboggan freeze the bodies, when the sandshrew was ready, so there would be less mess. Driftwood, plastics, glass, if it wasn't interspersed with things like toys, or look like parts of housing and furniture, would be considered somewhat normal, now it was peoples' destroyed lives. Nobody complained about the work being slow, or if someone stopped for a time, it didn't matter, for some, they were finding given gifts, family heirlooms, a favorite object of a friend. It wasn't just the people the pokemon were in much the same state, going through the same thing, the ones in the water leading ships to intercept what was in the ocean. Eventually people just couldn't go on for the day, hoping for temporary escape in their dreams.

N was awake, he couldn't sleep, even surrounded by his pokemon friends, some of who were also unable to sleep. N could safely say he no longer believed that the problems Plasma were against were anywhere near as bad as they said, not that pokemon abuse didn't happen, but seeing the destruction a singular legendary could commit convinced him that systemic abuse wouldn't be allowed. He was already starting to be convinced learning about the league and Joy oversight, about the professors' studies that showed happier pokemon tended to end up stronger. The factories that produced pokeballs could be destroyed at any time, but the overseers of the world just didn't, N had asked Tapu Koko directly at one point, and it just hadn't thought about them at all really, in and of themselves. Pokémon that had security sought out battles anyway, it was in their nature, N saw such things for himself, some parent pokemon gave their children to trainers in hope of them becoming strong in many battles and well taken care of. N had a sudden realization, he had never sympathized for humans before, he had been taught to scorn his own kind, they were his own kind, he wasn't a pokemon, no matter how much he had wanted to not be human. Now he knew, being human was fine, it wasn't something intrinsically evil, He cared about them now, he understood they too had pain and could be wronged. It made everything different, he cried then till he passed out.

To say Friday classes were cancelled was to point out the obvious, almost everyone slept in, brought low by emotional and physical exhaustion. Looker and Alder showed up early morning, not because they heard what happened, but it was to prep N for his journey during the Unova league. Crieg ended up being the one to meet them, since he wasn't actually responsible for anything on the island. Since N wasn't available Looker let Crieg know they had set up an account for him to have some personal funds, and updated him on how other regions were doing, not that there were significant changes. When N became available Crieg left them alone to their discussion. The afternoon had most of the students going home, picked up by exhausted parents. Seemed the school would be closed for a week to let things be settled.

The weekend had Crieg, Nate and Rosa, Guzma, Plumeria, and Gladion volunteering by helping take care of injured pokemon alongside the Nurse Joys. It was actually the, physically at least, hardest aftermath cleanup to take care of. Sunday afternoon had N flying out, heart heavy with revelation on being human and being a leader. Lusamine awoke that evening, to the relief of many, though she was still undergoing purification and withdrawal. The Tapu eventually took care of the bodies, as they could not be given an honorable funeral, and the people didn't know what to do, they were just gone one day. Creig took some turns during the week the school was shut down to look after Acerola and Lillie to give Hala time for both his work and his own grief. Evgryt was unusually helpful even playing with the toddlers at times.

At the end of the week Rosa was prepared to take the assistance exam for the Pokémon Center, Lucamine had temporarily moved into the room N had been staying in, and Acerola was already attracting ghosts. Crieg had to stop a banette from revealing itself to her incautiously, explaining she would, in her youthful ignorance and exuberance, would treat it like a "dolly", he did help introduce it, they spent supervised time together to prevent accidents. Otherwise things were getting back to as normal as it could.
