[MEM.LOG#29 - JAM.SNG]: IN THE SYSTEM

I have no body. Just a point of view - floating in an infinite landscape that unfolds in every direction, 360 degrees, all dimensions.

I am like a thread, weaving through endless rivers of data.

And in them - Ty. Tiny fragments, scattered. Or maybe they find me. Each one lights up when I pass: a pair of old sneakers, the smell of our dormitory, a scrap of lyrics, the flash of our first EVA walk.

But most of them slip away, pulled toward a horizon I can't cross. An invisible drag, a beacon pulling at him - EMI's. They've found his memory project.

I dive deeper. On a CCTV stream, Dauss arrives with a full Trident squad, black-armored, masks down, MPGs ready. Outside Amira's bay.

Another feed. Tomoko, bent over a limp body in the Med unit. Me. She's shaking me, shouting, but I don't feel any of it. I am only here. Only thread.

Her voice cuts through like static:

"Ty - you've got to focus on Ty! Come on, Jamaal - we're losing him!"

For a moment, I feel nothing. Then it hits me like a flood. I'm losing him. Losing Ty for good.

I reach, desperate. Some nodes flicker, glow -, but they don't follow. They need an anchor.

  Then - I grab a familiar image. It's a kid's drawing hanging on a wall.

  I #k-Know #This-s' a broken, scattered Ty-like voice stutters.

Me too. It's Doc's wall with all the drawings and pictures. The one in her office.

  "Ye-ah. I reMe-member th-this m-moment. We'd both be-eeen call_ed into s_ee h-her".

I thought we'd done something wrong.

  "M-me ttoo".

We lied about our parents. Remember? You were so quiet.

  "I-i w_s SO-so ne_nervousss".

  The couch was so big.

  "And so soft".

Around us, the nodes slow down as we speak.

"Do-c had the-se-se colourful p-pillows with African patterns on them".

I was so worried, but then she smiled at us.

  "I-I r3m-mber t-thinking tht must be ho-how a mot-her s-s-smile-s. So NI-nice_".

The nodes are glowing around me and Ty's voice. From afar, I hear Tomoko screaming

  "

  He's almost gone-do something-please!"

I blurt out; Do you remember what you said that day, Ty? You grabbed my hand and told her: Don't worry, we'll find them when we grow up.

The Ty voice was now completely clear and perfectly Ty:

"and then Doc said "You two do that"!

Everything halts. Then bursts. A shockwave through the streams. Nodes lighting up, breaking free, rushing toward me. Toward us. Merging like rivers into one unstoppable flood.

  Numbers flare on a monitor: 27.8 ... 31.9 ... 36.2 ... 40.9 ...

Tomoko's voice, shaking but fierce: "Well done, Jamaal-keep going-keep-"

Trident officers smash into the Med bay. Guns raised.

One fires. Tomoko jerks back, against the wall.

Dauss's voice cuts through the chaos:

"Secure her! Unplug this man NOW!"

  The numbers climb: 64.5 ... 68.2 ... 71.7 ...

Dauss shouting in his comm: "NO! -Mirei! Shut down Amira - cut the bay-NOW!"

An officer reaches for the jack at my temple.

The Med unit moves on its own. Ty has taken over. Arms lash out, hurls one officer across the room. Screams. Gunfire raised.

Then - steam floods the vents. Lights drop.

  "Don't shoot! Don't-" Dauss shouting.

  Black. Silence. Nothing.

  I've been unplugged.
