The first thing that I saw when I opened my eyes was my system telling me that I have gotten two new skills: [Intermediate Magical Recovery] and [Basic Night Vision].
For some reason– not that I'm complaining. – I immediately got intermediate for the first one, which I guess isn't really bad? I mean, I wanted to upgrade it to masterful and eventually, perfect so reaching the second stage the first time I get the passive means I have less work to do.
Oh, and I guess this means that I'll have a hard time lowering my mana from now on. For basic spells like [Icicle Spear]... Actually no, it's not even that, I'm simply using [Water Ball] right now. Essentially, since I'm using the most basic of spells, I won't be able to drain and deplete my mana.
A more sensible mage would go ahead and learn more powerful spells once that happens but me? I'm gonna start abusing the fact that I have an unlimited pool of energy and spam my spells like there's no tomorrow.
The golems inside the humus dungeon that I would have had a hard time dealing with originally can now be killed without issue because I no longer have to worry about preserving my mana.
On top of that, I can now make as many scrolls as I want!
But first, I need to buy a magical pen. I can't engrave proper runes without the right tools after all!
For the time being, I settled with turning regular paper into a magical one and to do that I simply had to grab hold of it and shove my mana into it.
When I did that my class told me that there's a better way to accomplish this than what I am currently doing and so, with the guidance of my newest blueprint, I proceeded to trap magic into pieces of paper.
The entire thing is made easier thanks to my senses being attuned to mana, that allowed me to effectively fill the entire papyrus with magic. When I finished, there wasn't a single inch of paper that wasn't magical.
I repeated this until I had around 20 magical parchments, after that I left to help mom with whatever she needs help with since Laself is now going to be occupied by her newest business.
She's making mayonnaise when I got out and she's so focused on stirring that she didn't even notice me. When I finished fixing the table, I walked up to her and waited until she realized that there's more to the world than mixing egg whites with citrus.
"Rontress?!" Laself exclaimed when she took a moment to wipe her brow. "You're awake?"
"Since a while back, yeah." Actually I'm pretty sure I woke up the earliest in this house. "You know you don't have to stir so hard when making mayonnaise right? It doesn't really change anything, it's the amount of oil and citrus that determines the consistency of the stuff."
"R-really?" Embarrassed, she put the jar she's holding away and looked around. "That's... I didn't know that."
"It's fine, making mayonnaise is pretty new so it's normal how you don't know much about it." I shrugged. "Actually we're the only ones making it right now, so uh, don't tell people about it okay?"
Laself slowly nodded. "Don't worry, I won't give them the recipe that you made."
Yeah, no, it wasn't me who invented that thing. I shook my head, "good, anyway, are you excited? I'll be going with you and Howaph for the last time today and after that, you'll be on your own!"
"I'm... Not sure if I am?" Laself smiled weakly, "thank you for giving me this opportunity, I want to say that– uhm." She paused, unsure of what to say next. "But I'm not excited to see you go or anything!"
"Laself, I don't mind. Okay?" I reached out and held her hand. "You need this more than I do. Light knows that Howaph will have a hard time earning money if he only focuses on spear fishing."
Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.
Because goddamnit, if my brother is gonna marry someone then he better take good care of her! I won't be satisfied unless Laself lives a life of luxury or something insane like that!
"Rontress, I don't mind that." Laself's grateful expression turned into something determined. "I'm happy to be with Howaph, you know? I don't have to live luxuriously when we're together."
Heh, too bad for her then. I'm not satisfied with her situation so she's gonna have to deal with me pestering them with business ideas until they're uber rich or something stupid like that!
"You're young, Laself." I deliberately softened my tone. "Mom is still the one cooking food for us so doesn't that mean that it's better if you earn money now to prepare for the future? Trust me, you'll need it when the time comes."
"I-I guess so yeah." Laself nodded weakly. "But what about you?"
"I'm carrying several hundred silvers in this pouch." Laself looked at the item in question with a look of shock. Wait till she learns I'm actually underestimating the price and the actual value of my monster cores is actually in the upper thousands.
"Right, I guess you don't really need to sell food anymore?" She said softly, a bit discouraged. "I'm sorry for worrying about you."
"No, you had the right to." I waved her off. "I'm putting myself in danger for every monster core that I get, but that's exactly what I want."
Does that make me sound like some kind of M? It totally does, doesn't it? I'm not exactly a masochistic person though... Not as far as I'm aware at least. My way of doing things until now does say a lot about me but I don't wanna unpack that for the time being.
"Because you want to be an adventurer?"
See? This is why I'm thankful I'm talking to Laself, or normal people for that matter. The internet friends I had back on earth would have called me a masochist the moment I say that I want to be put in a dangerous situation. Well before that actually...
"Yes! Because I want to be an adventurer!" I nodded excitedly.
Laself chuckled. "Well, if you're excited about doing that then I don't see the issue."
"Thank you." I smiled and sat back. "So, do you need any help?"
"Well, actually I'm thinking that maybe you should peel the lettuce?"
"Got it." I started working on that. "Do you want me to start mincing the tomatoes and onions?"
"Yes please. Howaph actually caught a few fishes yesterday and he didn't sell them, he said that cooking them might earn him more."
"It just might." Well, my brother isn't wrong. The real question is how much he's willing to mark up the price? "Hopefully your first day together goes well."
"Me too."
Laself and I worked together while mom occasionally came over to help with the preparations. By the time breakfast came, we've already prepared most of the things she wanted to sell and all that's left is to go to Ghorise and sell them.
My sister-in-law probably thought that I'd be satisfied with them selling food in the same spot we always have so she's gonna be shocked when I take our group beyond the alley and inside a tavern.
"I'll go ahead of you guys." I said as we passed the guards, "don't wait for me okay?"
With one last wave, I ran off. Howaph didn't even have the time to call me back before I'm out of their sight and into the depths of Ghorise's streets.
For a while now I've been scouting this town for places where I can relocate my stall and you know where the best spot I can do that in is? Next to the adventurers guild. I don't want Laself to be stuck in such a niche spot forever.
While I'm satisfied with that personally, I don't feel the same way when my brother and his wife are involved.
So with that in mind, I confidently strolled up to the entrance of the adventurers guild, attracting attention all the while. When I entered, I actually got a few people to look at me for a moment before they shook their heads and turned away.
Their whispers told me how they feel about my presence there: either I'm just a kid doing an errand or someone who's way over their heads.
Heh, wait til they see what's actually happening.
The line towards the receptionist was fairly long, it had to be given that the festival is starting to become active. It took me at least 5 minutes to get my turn and it's not even the Day of Piling yet.
"Hello." The girl behind the glass said with a smile. "Are you here on behalf of someone?"
"Nope! I just want to sell a few monster cores and also get my assessment!" I said brightly, making the receptionist smile.
"Ah, so you want to be an adventurer when you grow up?" She asked as she grabbed a piece of paper from underneath her desk. "How noble, you're a local right? Will I be seeing you a lot from here on out?"
"Yep!" I grinned, putting on my best childish act.
"Ah, I see." She nodded. "Now, where are the monster cores that you got from your teacher?"
I handed her the pouch and she in turn gave me a piece of paper.
Stat sheets are papers that can copy the information present in someone's system. I'm planning on hiding my main class for the time being so I deliberately scratched that out before I prickled my thumb and let my blood drop onto the parchment.
"Kid, are you sure that you didn't get these cores from somewhere-"
"Done!" I cut her off and showed her my stat sheet. The receptionist took it and read through the contents.
Her reaction made me feel like I'm about to get rejected. She looked so tense that a single tap on the shoulder would make her explode.
