Arc 1 chapter 2 : Unexpected havoc

The school bell finally rang at 1:30 PM, meaning that this boring school day had already finished. All students seem happy to get back home.

"Well. . . Good for them I guess. . . I don't even have an animal pet to greet me at home." I murmur to myself calmly while rubbing my sleepy eyes.

For the entire time, I almost fell asleep thanks to those boring classes, so now I'm tired as hell.

Finally. . . This day ends, constellations please make my footsteps faster. . . I want to sleep already

Just when I was about to see the school gate like it's a gate to heaven, I managed to catch a sound.

A sound that feels like something flying towards here.

With each second, it feels like the very movements of its body parts disturb the very movements of the air

And whatever it is, it didn't come alone

Suddenly, in an instant, I saw a few students get burned to a crisp by some fire breath from huge dark red flying creatures that made all of them manage to let out a scream that sounded distorted before they died. Probably because their voice box is being burned right now

  "AAAAAAA---AAAAAAA---AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! "

This is also another reason why I hate school so goddamn much, because of the possibility that this creature will attack this school.

The fallen angels who are being cursed by gods. . .

. . . Demons, wow, what a great way to end this fucking day. . .

The school suddenly filled with screams and footsteps of heavy running. Meanwhile, I'm just walking while getting pushed by them.

It's not like I had power in my arsenal that I can use to fight, hide, or run anyway.

I see some of them try to teleport away to the school gate, but as soon as they get near the school gate, their head get ripped off by several other demons.

And that is exactly why I don't rush out of school, I already expected this.

Just like I thought, no way I can get out of this situation that easily. . .

Just then, a demon in the sky breathed a fireball from its mouth to try to kill several students including me

Just a moment before the fireball was about to hit us, a man that just one year older than me quickly rushed to me and the other students and saved us from the fireball.

". . . Seriously? One second late and you'll get all of us killed. Can you be a little quicker next time with your super speed?"

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

"Shut up man. You should be grateful to me instead of complaining. One thank you is good enough, and it's your fault you just stand there like an idiot in the first place."

Well, as you can see, we had some sibling arguments even though we aren't blood-related. His name is Adam. I met him 4 years after my parents' incident. So I really see him as my older brother

"Oh yeah, Dani, you owe me lunch for this, alright? "

". . . Fine, just come to my house for ramen"

Although he is a bit annoying, he's the one who cares about my well-being, and he is one of 'them'. One of my childhood friends who has cared about me since I was a child

And also one of the heroes I really see as one.

"Well, now that you're here. . . Can you beat all of those-"

Just when I was about to ask him to deal with the demons, I already see a figure of him blurred out in my visible eyes that start to give uppercut to first three demons in 3 seconds, kicks another 3 demons in 10 seconds that enough to shake my school buildings, and how he trick the rest 4 of the demons to hit each other with their own hellfire balls spell with his super speed in 16 seconds.

Honestly, that last moment made me think that he just trolled the last four demons just for shit and giggles

A second later, I already see him stepping on top of the last demon while all of those dead demons start dispersing into dust.

Maybe it's not that impressive for him, but it's impressive for everyone because he defeated all 10 demons in just 30 seconds.

Well, not for me. . . I already expected this.

"Huh, what did you say? If you talk about me taking care of these demons, I already did." He said while wiping any trace of those demons' blood off his face

". . . Of course you are. Sorry for even asking that dumb question."

The moment seems to stand still for a moment before everyone comes out from their hiding place with each face showing shock or gratitude, the others were either terrified they might have developed PTSD

After that, all students, teachers, and even the guards who didn't piss themselves there crowd him and show them their gesture of thanks.

"Thanks, Adam! You save our lives! "A few of the girls there were fangirling over him at the same time

"I heard he's too fast, this motherfucker could jiggle missiles! "

"Nah you're lying, that's tough bro"

  "That's what I'm saying cuh! "

A few boys whisper in amazement with others look at him with amazement

But, one thing that no one seems to care about is those students who had been killed by the demons earlier. And it seems like it's just me who notices them.

"Oh wait. . . Is she still alive? " I said to myself calmly after seeing one of the girls' fingers start twitching, only for me to deduce later that it's just nerves memories

". . . Too bad, you're a really nice senior, this kind of death didn't suit you"

I never held any grudge or envy in my heart about Adam or any of my childhood friends. I adore them instead cause they are doing this without the need to get paid with money or need to increase their popularity

But also, no one could deny that those deaths could have been prevented if he had arrived earlier. . .

"Oh well, shit happens in this dark fantasy genre." I murmur to myself softly while standing between the corpses

He then approached me after the crowd seemed calmer, while he walked past those corpses respectfully, and asked me calmly. I swear he really talked like a big brother, even though he wasn't one.

  "Hey man, you good?"

  ". . . Yeah, I'm fine."

Adam looked at me deeply before asking me in his own curious tone

". . . You mourning about their death?"

  ". . . No, just feel bad for their parents. . . "

". . .Damn it, I already hate myself for even imagining it. . ."

"I'm more worried that they can't recognize their children's faces any longer. Some are now beheaded, some are burned to fuck"

He then looked down and sighed in regret. I could tell that he already regretted that he did ot come here sooner.

"I should have come here sooner. I-"

"Hey. . . It's not your fault. You did your best. Besides, no one can blame you for this, you aren't here for all 24 hours, 1440 minutes, and 86400 seconds. No one even expected this event to happen anyway. Don't be too harsh on yourself. . ."

There's a moment of silence before then he starts cracking jokes to lower the tension.

"Damn you, this is a serious moment right now, you know? " He said while rubbing the back of his head

"So? You expect me to just let you beat yourself in guilt? Like in hell I will"

". . . You sound like a real nerd when you literally recite the numbers earlier. Man, are you even human to remember the exact time of 1 day?? "

"I am, trust me, my blood is red."

"That alone isn't enough to convince me man. . . You know that we literally had humanoid robots now. . . " He said while chuckling at me

Honestly, that's a solid point there. Who even remembered all those details anyway? I thought to myself calmly

"Want to play a video game later? I want to make the feeling of guilt ease. . . Even just for a little bit" Adam said softly to me, hoping I would agree

". . . Sure. But you need to comfort the parents first. Do what you gotta do first. That's your responsibility after all"

"I know. . . I hope they can forgive me for this. "

I tap his shoulder a few times trying to reassure him. I know this isn't easy for him, but this is what makes me really see him as a hero.

He really cares about people's lives, he feels regret if he knows those deaths can be prevented if he arrives sooner, unlike some hypocritical heroes out there who care about fame only

"Oh well, if they didn't forgive you. . . I will"
