132. To Find A Second Kill

A good morrow to you, my dear reader, a very good morrow indeed.

Why, I do believe that today is the most exquisite of days, wouldn't you say?

  ... (Huh?)

  Oh never mind you me.

  Do say, my dear reader...

How does your very day find itself to be?

Boring, or all the same full of excitement?

  ... (Uh... boring I guess.)

  Really? Why so?

Why, haven't you taken my advice?

  ... (Huh?)

  Indeed.

To take a bite out of the fruit of life, I say.

Why, the very act shall prove most worthwhile to you, I should say...

... (No, it's just a slow day is all.)

  Oh rubbish.

  ... (Huh?)

Fail to assume that life is ever so simple that things just come your way when you wish it, I say.

Why, at times are you required to get up and do something with yourself.

  ... (What? But I am.)

Oh, come now, my dear reader...

Should you have been doing something worthwhile, would those words have never escaped your lips.

  ... ("Oh, bother...")

  Now, now, my dear reader...

Fail to assume I shall let this alone.

Why, to simply sit back and watch the cows and the bulls walk over...

'Tis most unsightly for a youth.

... (Ok. So, what do you suppose I should do? (Smart guy.))

Oh, 'tis oh so simple indeed.

  ... (Uh huh...)

Simply find yourself something that takes this life of yours and even so your heart and sets it aflutter.

... (Like you and telling Jake's story?)

Well, I do suppose I should say that I would much prefer battling...

  However, indeed.

  ... (Easier said than done.)

  Why, my dear reader...

Has anything ever been that easy, I say?

... (But... you just called it simple.)

  Yes, yes...

  Simple, but not easy.

  ... (Huh?)

There is a difference I say, my dear reader.

One you should take care to always mind.

... (Alright. (sigh) I might regret this but what is it exactly?)

Why the answer is oh, so simple indeed.

  ... (Uh huh.)

Why, this very example suits the case does it not?

  ... (Huh?)

  Simple but not easy.

Why, you should know exactly what it is that you want to do.

That part is oh, so simple, I should say.

All the same do I also say this.

That the very tale that you do now read does bring to you a most pertinent question.

  That being...

Would you do a simple thing...

  Or rather fail to...

Simply for the fact that it is not easy?

  ... (Huh...)

  Very good then.

I'm glad I failed to require an endless drove of words to guide you.

And of that, I do say unto you my dear reader...

  Let us begin.

  Ahem...

'Twas as the young lad was along his way in the forest that indeed a beast was stalking him.

Even so, could he sense the very dire wolves many a ways away.

  Indeed.

Why, there were quite a number that pack, he would say.

All the same, would I argue...

That the young lad simply didn't mind them too much.

Why, for the distance and even so for the very fact that they posed little danger to him, why...

Was the very lad even so of the mind that should he fail to find something worthwhile, why...

Could he simply go there and slaughter the lot of them.

  Indeed.

... (Why does that not surprise me...)

  What?

  ... (Wolf meat. Alright...)

  Surely, my dear reader...

You must live in some sort of peculiar world.

All the same without a worry...

Did the young lad fully know that the beast was on its way, and even so, that the very beast was a Bone beak.

  ... (A bone beak?)

Yes, a most peculiar sort of beast.

Why, the very many of them do scavenge much as the hyena wolves shall...

However, this beast does find itself to be more capable of putting up a fight, I should say.

Why, had the young lad smelt it...

  Hmmm...

  No, no...

An apology from me, I must say.

Why, the young lad did fail to bother to move his head either right or left.

Why, to turn his head to face a bone beak...

Had he the desire to speak, he would have said...

"'Tis far too slow for me to turn my head."

Yes, he is that sort of lad.

All the same, do I say...

That he very likely would have said such had he also someone with whom to speak.

  Indeed.

And also, the very mood to.

All the same, did the beast eventually emerge...

Why, the very thing was amongst the tree branches...

  Flying and now slowly following.

  Indeed.

  The bone beak.

  ... (What is that even?)

Why, 'tis an odd species of dragon, I should say.

One of especially hard bones on the outside of its person...

To say nothing of the large bone "beak" of sorts that it does carry for a nose, mouth and even so, face.

  ... (Huh?)

  Indeed.

  A fully strange individual.

All the same, is the very beast also a dragon.

  And thereof, I say...

Is it of the lesser variety.

... (When can we see some more greater dragons?)

  Hmmm...

Maybe we shall, perhaps we shall not.

  ... (Huh?)

'Tis of the many things of this world I should say.

  ... (What?)

Oh never mind, I merely meant to keep you in mystery...

  Moving along...

  Ah, yes, indeed.

  A bone beak.

Do imagine, my dear reader, a dragon covered in bone.

Yes, a normal dragon covered in...

  Why, better said...

  Covered in its own skeleton.

And even so, do imagine it as with a large bone ending at a point as its very head.

  Indeed.

  ... (Even the eyes?)

  No eyes has this beast.

It is fully blind, I should say.

... (So... how does it see? Smell? hearing?)

You simply must not be too unfamiliar with all this to have guessed it.

  Indeed.

The very beast does have a properly good sense of smell...

To say nothing of its very ability to...

  Hmmm...

I suppose I shall explain that later.

All the same, for its body...

Do imagine the body of a lesser dragon, smaller than that of a greater, surely, but even so, why...

Does it have to itself longer legs and a narrower body.

Why, may some even argue that its body remains reminiscent of that of a wolf or a dog of some kind.

  Indeed.

... (Whelp... I've imagined things today.)

And of its body, I should say this...

That the very beast remains as one with, how you say...

  Oh, I do know this.

A bony dragon covered in bone.

  ... (Huh?)

  Do imagine, my dear reader...

  A beast, nay...

  A dragon...

One fully emaciated and full of hunger...

  And thereof, I say...

Do imagine the very beast to be covered in bones.

Do say, what do you see, my dear reader?

  ... ( A... A bony dragon covered in... man...)

Yes, a most peculiar sort of beast it is, I should say...

All the same did it soon find itself climbing upon a tree...

One at the very vicinity of the young lad...

  And thereof, I say...

Were its wings fully folded, for such wings allowed it to do so.

Why, the very dragon can fold its wings enough that many an obstacle fail to obstruct its very path.

  Indeed.

Even so, was it not long, before the young lad simply turned around to see it...

And the beast itself, in full view...

Did flare its wings out, as a somewhat shrill sound did echo through the forest that night.

  Name: Bone Beak

Description: I did already say it all, did I not? Although, I could also speak of its beak. Yes... the very beak does have to it a few small holes. 'Tis for these holes on the top of it that this beast has such a properly profound sense of smell. Even so, does it have fangs underneath its upper and lower beak.

Behaviour: A scavenger of sorts, I say. Why, the very beast is well known for its stalking of prey and animals. Even so, do some refer to it as the "death stalker."

It remains a somewhat opportunistic beast, all the same, still being a scavenger, and even so, never being oh-so quick to land the first blow.

Ability: The very beast's bone armour is much harder than many first hunters assume. Why, a strong blade shall simply fail to cut it. All the same, does the very beast have to it a most spectacular sense of smell... to say little of its endurance. Why, the very thing is tough, I should tell you. All the same, does it also bear a sense of hearing of sorts. Some researchers imagine that its very beak does vibrate when a certain sound does pass it by, allowing it to hear properly. A most fascinating thing really.

And even still, I say, did the beast just so happen to bear the power to simply slink away, owing to its foldable wings and its slim body. Indeed. The jungle does find itself to be a proper home for it.

  Threat level: C+

Fact: Some people have birthed legends of the beast... calling it the bringer of death, or acclaiming to it many such things as, oh, how you say, the many foolish things many a clever man or woman that remains foolish may manage to write about such unknown things. "That it brings death." "That it is oh, so powerful." Utter nonsense, I say. Clear foolery that comes from those with nothing to do. Why, most proper hunters shall tell one... 'tis simply a normal scavenger. A bit deadly, but nay... nothing to tell folk tales of, I shall tell you. The very nerve...

  Moving along...

  Ah, yes...

  The very bone beak.

Why, it was many a foot away from the young lad, all the way up in the trees...

  While he...

Why, he was simply looking at it...

The very distance between them both being quite large, I should say.

Why, the very beast was say...

  Hmmm...

No, I think that should suffice.

All the same, did the very beast slowly stalk its prey...

All till it made its way here, and now, knowing that it had been discovered, I say...

Would most beasts run and even so flee...

Disregarding any dreams of partaking of the meal.

All the same, however, would the very beast here fail to do so.

  Indeed.

... (Well, yeah. I guess it is hungry.)

  Hmmm...

  No.

  ... (Huh?)

Why, the very wisest choice, my dear reader, would most certainly be to flee.

... (Oh, because Jake would kill it?)

  Oh, no, no, no...

  Hmmm...

Perhaps I should explain this as well.

Dear reader, do ask yourself this question...

And even so, should I add...

That the very Bone Beak is no stranger to hunting itself.

However and even so do I riddle you this.

Who exactly is the Bone Beak hunting?

  Jake...

Or the very dead bleeding beast upon the forest floor...

Being dragged by the young lad?

  ... (Huh...)

Well I shall halt our session here today, my dear reader.

  ... (Oh come on...)

Oh come now, my dear reader...

Do have some patience about you...

Why, this shall all end well I say.

  Indeed...

Do manage to do the less easy thing, I say.

  And yet...

  Simple.

  Indeed.

And a good day to you, my dear reader...

  A good day indeed.
