They hid ontop of trees shading there presence. Infront of them was the section of the wall, the section was far from the gate and no light present except a few guards that patrol along the walls.
Edric and Kael waited for he right time. A few minutes pass and the last set of guards passed giving a long window to escape.
*THUD*
Edric landed the floor with a soft thud, Kael landed with no sound at all.
If only i had wind.
They stood 10 mentre a head of the the wall. Edric crouthed low, his legs back in a runner stance to lunge through the wall. Before that he had to verify something.
“Hey Kael, there isn’t some magic the shields the inside of the walls right?” he whispered with a hint of hesitation.
“Let me think,” he cocked his head to the side. “Shouldn’t be any, magic like that is expensive. I doubt the mayor of this place would bother.”
Edric beathed a sigh of relief for a second he tought he would become a brick sandwich.
“It wouldn’t matter even if there was shield, you can phase through anything as far as i have seen.”
True, The status didn’t show any limtition on material. So thirty seconds should be enough to phase through this. But just in case.
“Throw me” he said bluntly.
“What?” Kael looked very confused on the statement.
“Just insurance, incase the wall is a two thick or i dont know something unexpeced happens. Throw me as i turn in invisible.”
Kael chuckled, “fine, don’t blame if you get hurt.”
Edric took five steps back, Kael stood behidn him. He held his staff like a bat over his shoulder, Edric crouthed low like a ball. On the count of three, he hits with his wind and Edric activates his ability.
“On the count of three,”
“One ,”
“Two,”
“Three”
*WOOSH*
Kael swung his staff, infusing mana on the tips forming a small current of wind. The current became strongeer and stronger, and peaked at the bottom meetin Edric.
Ghost steps.
Edric activated Ghost steps while flying likea bullet. HIs vision began to blurr, soon the lights turned off as he entered the wall in great speed. Things were going so fast he felt nauseous. Thankfully only two second later light returned. He expanded his body, using his legs as breaks.
He stumbled on his path, started rolling no stop until he collided with a tree with as oft thud.
Oww, thank god I hope no one heard that.
He stood up, stretched his back, audible cracks were heard with sent relief across his body. On to the main task, he flicked his head and started walking discreetly.
The guards were at the gate checking his riders face. Comparing it to the sketch that he made while he fought Kael and Aeris. One by One he let them pass .
Edric observed the scene inside a bush. Through his telescope, far enough that he won’t be seen.
Now all he had to do is wait until he see’s his friends arriving. Than break a cart or two to distract the guards.
He slouthed his back on the nearby tree and waited.
—--
Most shops were closed at night, with became a problem to buy stuff worthy of a disguise.
Xantha and Aeris went off going from shop to shop to buy the necessary items. Mainly a cart after all a supposed noble arriving on large bull was a sight to laugh about.
“AHH,” Xantha grioned. “All the shops are closed.”
Aeris clicked her tongue scanning the block for anything. Only carts the they see are street vendor onces lying on the streets but they don’t exactly give the look of nobility.
If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
Out of nowhere Xantha spouted.“Let’s steal it,” Aeris gave her a expression clearly astonished . “Don’t give me that look. We can give out some coins if we have to. It’s the middle of the night, thief’s isn’t exactly new. All we need to do is to break in to cart shop, get the cart, leave some coins and skiddadle.”
Aeris nodded, it was the quickest option. “Alright, it can’t be worse than what Kael did.”
“Great,” she said with excitement. “Now where is our prey.”
Xantha skipped forward, peaking around every corner to find a shop that either sold carts or had a cart. She looked around with no luck.
“Let’s go to the next block–” Aeris wrapped her palm on Xantha sliencing her. Than pointed at a direction. She flicked her head to see—
Several meters ahead, she could see three people and a cart. A fairly lavous cart with a open roof, embroidery and cushions made of animal fur. Beside the cart was a noble or a merchant given her robed attire barking orders to a man fixing her cart wheels. Her maid stood beside her holding a lamp near her master’s face..
Immediately Xantha knew the plan, they had found there play.
Knocking out three people, was in fact very easy to Xantha’s surprise. Aeris simply using the rooftop as a vantage point, threw needles inlaced with sleeping potions at the target.
The needles pierced there necks causing a slight sting. Before they could relize it, there bodies became numb. Slowly slumping down and even there voice didn’t cause any sound.
There bodies hit the floor with a soft thud.
Xantha quickly ran to the seen. Aeris jumped down lands softly on her tip toes.
“That was fast, ” Xantha said, “you were fabulous.”
Aeris gave a small grin. “It was nothing. Hop on the cart.”
Xantha interject. “Hold on,” Aeris who was midway on the cart steps. “Don’t we need to find outfits for ourselves.” Aeris nodded. Xantha gestured the fallen people, Aeris flicekd her head to see teh noble woman, her maid and the robed man who was fixing the broken wheel, was in fact a guard or atleast a hired mercenary wearing a light armor inside the robe.
Aeris understood immediately her plan and agreed to it.
The next thing they know, The girls rode thier cart of the scene. Leaving behind three very naked people in the undergarments knocked out in an alleyway. Inside the cart. Xantha quickly changed to the maid outfit which was exactly the right size for her. Aeris drove the horse to meet Kael wearing the merchants dress which was a bit to tight for her liking
—---
Kael let out a long yawn, tapping his foot in a rhythmic manner as he waited. His hand lazily rested on one of the bulls. Then the sound of wheels rattle became more and louder. He peeked his head to see—
A Small yet well decorated cart attached to a horse, being ridden by Aeris who looked to be wearing a new outfit. The cart halts to a stop in front of the ally, before he could ask anything. Xantha hoped of the cart wearing a maid outfit.
“Here” she tossed a piece of armor at Kael. “Were this,”. Before he could ask how they got these items, she peeked in the cart and took out a saddle for cargo.
She took a saddle, and began strapping the bulls to it. Since there is little reason why a noble needs four bulls, when even one is enough for the cart. Disgusiing it as cargo is better than nothing.
Aeri’s stepped down with noble grace, unhooked the horse and took a saddle for another bull.
Kael’s with a very confused look. “Do even need to ask where you got this?” He stared at the armor he was thrown, lignered his finger on the craftsmanship. It was small for his height but he could tell the armor was already worn and was decently well made.
“It isn’t as bad as your mess.” she said frankly. “Now guard, go get changed.” she said in a commanding tone like a noble ordering her men.
Shrugging his shoulder, Kael put on the upper armor part and the robe ignoring he legs except the knee pads. It’s was a bit to tight for his liking so he ignored the shoulders instead put on a leather sleeve from his pouch.
A few moments later , they were ready.
Aeris sat on the cart, her legs crossed, her hair temprly dyed in a shade of pink flowed with the wind. Her bull was attached to drag the car. Xantha sat at the driver seat, with the rope in her hand.
Kael the guard mounted his bull, leading the way . The other two bulls had saddle bag with a mountain of items on them, acting as cargo .
—----
What’s taking so long?
Edric peeked using his telescope and still no sight of them. It’s been a little more than 40 minutes of waiting. The line is still flowing slowly but in a more smooth pace.
The owner’s guard had grown tired as the night passed. It was a given, his muscles out to ache from the duel he had at the den.
*WOOSH*
Edric flinched all of sudden, a light breeze of wind out of character brushed his head. It was too concentrated to be natural. Worried he searched around the bush for anything, than he found a piece of wood with a small craving of a bird. It looked familiar.
He sat back up, used his telescope to see— a guard or mercery. No he knew that figure it was Kael, weaning a new set of armor that hid his face. Behind him were the bulls that stood out like as sore thumb against the other mounts. He spotted Xantha on the cart and Aeris with new getup, legs crossed and slumped on the cushion.
It was time for the plan.
Now which cart to break was the question. Than a target was spotted. Another noble or merchant was infront of them. He was arguing with the guards about something. He didn’t know who he was, but seeing the guards stressed expression it was obvious he was of some importance.
At the gate, the tried guard looked up his checklist to see a very large bull. A chukka bull? Where the hell did they get that?
“Excuse me, where did you get this animals ?” he questioned their authenticity. He looked up at the cart, the woman bore a very annoyed expression and screamed nobility. Nobles having rare animals wasn’t new . But four, four bulls for a silly noble girl–
“What’s the matter guard?” Aeris spoke with a deep attitude.
“Ma’am it seems this guard is questioning your authenticity.”
The guard's face soured, when did i questioned her authenticity. He thought. Before he could rebuke Aeris cursed.
“Who dares question my guild authority.” she peeked out of the cart. Her posture was slouthed and looked untrain. So the possibility of her being the assailant was low. But the guard felt off about Kael. Perhaps it was posture or because of his concealed face didn’t put him at ease.
“Aplogize ma’am, it’ just routine exception. I just need to verify you faces and name before leaving.” He turned to Kael. All needed was to see the face, that’s it only one look.
Kael was about to go to lift his helm—
*CRASH*
The guard clicked his tongue and flicked his head in one swift motion. His expression soured instantly, a cart broke down. More specifically a very annoying old nobles cart who would be the end of him, if he losses his temper.
“Oi, how long will you take? My master needs some rest and it’s getting cold.” Xantha spoke with a country accent and some spuke to her.
“One moment ma’am”, he gesutred his colleague. “ You take over.” he handed the checklist that contained the picture and ran off to fix the cart.
Unknown to him, just as he was passing the board. Kael did a neat little trick that sent the picture flying off somewhere. The other guard was too tired to bother with it. He looked up with a casual bored expression.
Aeris sent daggers into him, that sent shivers down his spine. “I’ll be quick.” He trembled slightly that he forgot to look at Kael's face. His gaze diverted at the large herd of bulls. “Why would a single person four bulls. Two would be enough for the guard and the cart?”
Aeris counterargued with a voice laced with malice. “It was supposed to quick trip for a trade. Unfortunately as you can see, the deal took longer than it needed to. Now we need to head out before dawn or else I will miss my other trade meeting. You wouldn't want that would you.” she cleared her throat. “ We need these beasts to carry our load and handle the weather. Now can we go!” she spoke in fast paced while cicking her finger.
The guard felt unease talking to her, he just wanted to let her go. “Sorry for the delay ma’am . you can leave.”
Just like that the cart passed through the gate, without suspicion. The head guard was to preoccupied dealing with the noble to check, as they passed through right under his nose.
—---
After several meters later, after a turn behind a hill they stopped.
*Woosh*
Edric emerged from on top of tree, landing beside them. For several moments everyone was silent. Kael and Aeris who had just dropped her facade, surveyed the surroundings. Kael looked several times to see if they werent followed.
He let out a deep breath. “Phew, the coast is clear. Were out of this place.”
A sort smile grew on everyone's face. Meanwhile, Edric’s heart started palpitating uncontrollably. He raised his arm and patted his chest to calm. They had gone through so much , but now it’s time, time to head to the source of his problem.
The Veyra Estate.
