The Origin of the Void Event
Deep within a state-of-the-art laboratory, scientists were fixated on strange minerals recovered from a mountain 100 miles from Seattle. These were glowing purple crystals, unlike anything ever seen on Earth.
Technicians in hazmat suits entered the containment chamber to test the crystals' structural integrity and hue. They observed a haunting, ethereal glow emanating from the stones—a resonance that felt alien to this world. After a battery of tests, the lead scientist delivered a chilling report.
Scientist A reporting to NORTHCOM Headquarters:
"We have analyzed the crystal. Its origin is... distinct. Whenever we bring it near a magnetic field, it creates massive interference, acting like a localized EMP."
NORTHCOM Command:
"Are you certain it’s extraterrestrial? Keep this under wraps. Isolate that crystal immediately."
Scientist A:
"Understood. We will proceed with caution and deliver the final results shortly."
A Grim Awakening
On a typical morning in 2025, New York City was bustling with its usual rhythm—commuters, tourists, and the machinery of government. No one could have imagined they were on the precipice of an unimaginable catastrophe.
The story follows Lieutenant Colonel Marcus, a seasoned veteran of the U.S. Army. His morning started routinely: donning his dress uniform, adjusting his officer’s cap, and sliding on his signature aviator sunglasses.
At the breakfast table, his wife, Sarah, handed him a hot cup of tea. She looked at him with concern.
Sarah: "Hey, honey. You’ve been so busy lately. You look exhausted."
Marcus (with a faint smile): "It’s nothing, Sarah. I’m up for a promotion to Colonel soon. The added pressure is just part of the job. I’m fine."
Sarah: "You need to take care of yourself. That weary look on your face... it worries me."
Marcus: "Alright, alright. I hear you. You’re always right."
Their daughter finished her breakfast and headed for the door. "I'm done! Bye Mom, bye Dad! See you after school!" The door slammed shut behind her.
Marcus: "I should get going too. Duty calls."
Sarah kissed his cheek. "Stay safe today."
As Marcus walked toward his transport, he pulled out his phone to call his long-time friend and colleague.
Advisor Ankae: "Hello? Where are you, man?"
Marcus: "I’m on my way. Am I that late?"
Ankae (laughing): "Nah, just messing with you. Where are you at?"
Marcus: "Almost there. What’s the status?"
Ankae: "Promotion to Colonel... man, you really earned that in the Middle East. Meanwhile, I’m just a civilian advisor stuck behind a desk."
Marcus: "It comes with a price, Ankae. Ever since I got back, I jump at every loud noise. If my kid sneaks up on me, I nearly pin her to the floor. I'm struggling to adapt to 'normal' life."
Stolen story; please report.
Ankae: "That’s war for you. Sometimes a piece of your soul stays behind. Anyway, hurry up. Don't be late for your own ceremony."
The Promotion and the Anomalies
As Marcus entered the military district, the sentries snapped to attention.
Sentry: "Good morning, Lieutenant Colonel!"
Marcus nodded and met Ankae in the main hall. The ceremony was formal and steeped in tradition, designed by Command to bolster public confidence. As the General pinned the Colonel’s eagles onto Marcus’s shoulders, applause filled the room. Marcus looked out the window at the American flag. He didn't know it was the last time he would see it flying over a unified nation.
Marcus’s Speech: "I stand here not because I am better than any other soldier, but because I am a survivor. Our duty is to protect this peace... but we must also prepare for the things we were never trained to face."
Soon after, supernatural events began to escalate. In a secure briefing room, Marcus and Ankae reviewed the data.
Officer 1: "Signals are dropping everywhere. We have massive interference."
Officer 2: "A pilot nearly went down over the mountains because his instruments just... died."
Marcus: "This isn't a coincidence. It's dangerous. Contact Flight Coordination. We need a No-Fly Zone over the southern range immediately."
The government issued warnings, citing "extreme magnetic interference" and advising evacuations. Military cordons were established around the mountains where the purple crystals were first found.
Then, the sky began to change. Over the mountains, the atmosphere turned a bruised purple. Violent, unnatural lightning strikes targeted vehicles. Similar "purple storms" began appearing across the country. Panic began to seep through the public.
The Void Event: The End of Mankind
January 1, 2025. The world broke. In Seattle, the "Void Event" began. Radar went black. Communication with Florida and the East Coast vanished. Then, the rifts opened.
Creatures from the Void poured into the streets. People were torn apart in seconds. Police fire was useless against the sheer numbers. A six-legged, spider-like horror known as a Mexus lunged from the shadows, decapitating an officer instantly.
In the command center, screens flickered with static and gruesome satellite imagery.
Ankae: "We’ve lost contact with all ground forces in Seattle. This isn't a battle... it's a massacre."
Young Officer: "Report! The 1st Airborne has been wiped out. We lost the last C-130. They have... anti-air capabilities!"
Marcus: "Creatures don't have technology. This is something else entirely. I'm going in. We need a Rapid Response Force now."
The Battle for Grand Hyatt
Black Hawks and V-22 Ospreys roared through Seattle’s purple sky. Below them, the city was a graveyard of burning cars and mangled corpses. Marcus sat by the door of his helicopter, M4 carbine ready.
Soldier: "Colonel, look! The Grand Hyatt is being torn apart!"
The luxury hotel was being consumed by a strange, glowing purple "frost." The helicopters touched down in a nearby park. The air smelled of ozone, blood, and something sickeningly sweet.
Marcus: "Secure the perimeter! Search for survivors! Stay sharp!"
Suddenly, a massive shadow erupted from the hotel ruins. It was a Karex—a four-legged beast armored in jagged grey bone.
Marcus: "TAKE COVER!"
The Karex vibrated, and the bone shards on its back launched like ballistic missiles. One soldier was impaled through the chest before he could move.
Soldier 2: "What is that thing?! It’s shooting its own bones!"
Marcus: "Focus fire on the joints and the head! Don't waste ammo on the main shell! Move!"
The Descent into the Basement
The team retreated into the Hyatt lobby, slamming the steel shutters just as the Karex slammed against them. In the dim light, Marcus saw dozens of terrified civilians.
Woman: "Are you here to save us? Please!"
Comms Officer: "Rescue choppers are on the roof, but the stairs are gone. We have to use the freight elevator in the basement."
Marcus: "The power is out. We have to manually start the backup generators."
They opened the basement door, and a thick, pale green mist rolled out. The smell was acrid—acidic.
Marcus: "Masks on! This gas is corrosive!"
Through the fog, they saw the Hyoponic—slug-like creatures clinging to the ceiling, their bodies pulsating like diseased lungs. They were the source of the gas.
Marcus tossed a thermite grenade to clear the fog and charged the generator. He smashed the fleshy "cocoon" the monsters had spun around the machine and threw the switch. The lights flickered on.
Marcus: "The elevator has power! Get the civilians to the roof! GO!"
The Final Escape
The elevator climbed slowly. Green gas began leaking through the ceiling vents.
Soldier 2: "Colonel! The civilians don't have masks! They're choking!"
Marcus: "Fire through the roof!"
They riddled the elevator ceiling with bullets. A screeching sound followed as blue-green ichor dripped down. They reached the roof just as the gas began to dissolve the elevator cables.
On the rooftop, the scene was hopeless. Mexus crawlers were scaling the walls from all sides. In the distance, giant Hyoponics were emerging from the city's sewers, turning Seattle into a giant vat of acid.
Pilot: "COLONEL! WE HAVE TO GO! THE HEAT FROM THE FIRES IS MELTING THE ENGINES!"
Marcus shoved the last of the survivors into the Black Hawk. As they lifted off, he looked down at the city. The Seattle he knew was gone—replaced by a hellscape of Void purple, toxic green, and the red glow of a dying world.
