CHAPTER 9 DAY OFF

After we saved the people being held by the bandits, we rested for the remainder of the day. They were really beaten up, they had bruises, and raw skin from where the ropes were.

The next morning, we began to walk towards the Earth Kingdom. It was a slow pace; we were half a day away, but it would probably take a full day to get there. We might miss the dragon's blessing, but at least we saved some people.

Then, when we were about halfway there, we saw some heroes walk by; they gave us quizzical looks but continued walking. Then, as it was turning dark, we eventually made it to the Kingdom of Earth.

We brought all the people to a church devoted to the goddess of light, where they would be taken care of. And then we went to the palace, hoping we didn't miss the dragon's blessing. But once there, an attendant of the king told us that the dragon said, “If you want my blessing, then first kill the bandits on the border of the land of water and the land of Earth. Then I will give you my blessing.”

So the reason we passed by so many heroes was that they were going to kill the bandits. Then we told him about how we took out the bandit leader, then we were immediately brought to see the king. Once there, we told him about how we fought the bandits and about how we saved people, and that they were at the church. The king immediately sent someone to check, and then once they came back, the king thanked us, and we were given a room to stay in until the other heroes got back.

Entering the room, it was a small room with two beds, and the bathroom was down the hallway. We immediately went to bed. This was my first time sharing a room with a girl, and I was a little nervous, but I quickly fell asleep, thanks to the exhaustion from today.

That night, I had a nightmare of killing the bandit leader. I woke up with a jolt, calmed down, and told myself it was necessary; I seemed to wake up Sid, and she asked, “Nightmares?” Then said, “Just think about the people you saved, you did the right thing, calm yourself knowing that.” Then I went back to sleep.

The next day, we were allowed to rest, and good thing too, as I was a little tired from a bad night's sleep. The blessing was going to be the day after tomorrow, as most of the heroes would probably be back by then.

So today we have the day off, and we planned to go look around the city. We were given an escort again, a man with dirt-colored skin and hair, who had a war hammer, a buckler, and a dagger.

Today, Sid was wearing a dirt-collared dress that was given to her by the kingdom of Earth; she was pretty as usual, but I am sure she had a knife hidden under that dress. And she had a staff with her. I would feel sorry for anyone who tried to mess with her.

It was a sunny day, and we were walking towards the church to check on the people we had saved. I finally got a good look at the Earth Kingdom; all the buildings were made of bricks made of mud, and the people had dirt-collared skin and hair.

Once at the church, we checked on the people we saved. They had been given medical help, food, water, and a place to rest. Some of them brightened up to see us, but most were just exhausted and asleep. We helped take care of them for a while, but quickly realized that we were more of a hindrance than a help.

So we left and got some food at a restaurant. Evidently, the Earth Kingdom was famous for its skilled farmers, so they mostly ate stuff like vegetable soup. It tasted good, and the alcohol was good. It’s funny, I was never much of a drinker in my old world, but here in this world, water was not to be trusted; it could have all sorts of germs in it, but alcohol killed those germs, so most people drink, even the kids.

Then, after eating, we went sightseeing, though there was not much to see. So we quickly went back to the castle and trained, magic, staff fighting, and knife fighting. After my fight with the bandit leader, I began practicing my knife-fighting skills. After all this, we went to bed, and the next day went much the same. The main difference being that I played a game of chess with some guy named Loam.

And then the day the heroes would get back came.
