Chapter 10 - A Final Message

The Lost Vampire System Chapter 10 - A Final Message

Damion walked over to Henry and Jareth while showing his card to them, which now showed 6-11.

“Wow, you got the same room as us!” Henry said excitedly.

  “Indeed, I did,” Damion replied.

“You sure you want to be with us?” Jareth asked. “I mean, we are just level ones.”

“Are you kidding? I don’t care about that. I’m strong enough anyways. I already promised that if you need any help that you come to me.” Damion said like they had been friends for years.

Deep down, both Jareth and Henry were glad to have a friend they believed they could count on.

“Time’s up,” Robert announced. “Put your room information into your Forwatch’s so that your belongings can be delivered.

Everyone’s Forwatch’s beeped at the same time. Jareth looked at his Forwatch and saw a space with a dash and two more spaces. He typed in 6-11 hitting the confirm button. When he was done. Another beep resounded and other beeps could be heard. Jareth noticed that Mia, Keira and Emma had gotten the same room, which was 14-80, floor 14 room 80.

“$10 was added to your Forwatch’s while you were unconscious this morning,” Robert spoke up. “Dinner will be at 8:00 today. Usually, it will start at 6:00 but since it’s the first day, we wanted you all to see a show if you aren’t participating.” Robert announced while chuckling. “Dismissed. Remember today is Saturday and classes will start on Monday. Report to your home room by 8:00am.”

The students started to talk again amongst themselves discussing whether they should check out their rooms, go to the boxes, explore the city, go to the library to read or do other things.

“Well, what would you guys like to do?” Damion asked. “I really don’t care.”

Jareth was about to respond but before he could he heard his name being called out.

“Jareth and Mia Nightshade,” Robert said.

Jareth and Mia glanced at each other before reluctantly walking to Robert. When they were finally there, he looked at them with a confused look.

“Before your father went out to defend one of our bases, he left a letter with a bracelet for you just in case he died.”

“He did?” The siblings said with confusion.

“Yes,” Robert replied. “If you would like to see it, please come with me.”

“I would like to see what our father had left behind for us,” Mia said.

Jareth nodded in agreement. This was something that their father had left behind for them and their first real interaction with them since he had died. Both Jareth and Mia wanted to see what he had left behind.

“Very well, come with me,” Robert said.

He pushed the up button for the elevator. Immediately the elevator made a ding sound as it opened. The three of them got in and the elevator closed. The elevator moved, which made the number that represented the floor that they were on start to go up.

After a moment, Robert broke the silence. “Of course, for security reasons, the military checked what your father left behind. We didn’t find anything wrong with the two items, but the military believes your father is hiding something.” He cleared his throat. “Do you know what your father is hiding?”

The siblings glanced at each other, but they didn’t know what Robert was talking about.

“Based on your expressions you don’t know if he was or not. Well, that’s probably good.”

The elevator made a ding sound, and it showed the number 30. The doors opened and Robert stepped out followed by the siblings. They found themselves in an office type room. There were two glass office rooms on each side with a huge glass office on the far end of the room. The office rooms were completely empty.

“This is where the higher ups work. The office at the far end is the Lieutenant Colonel of first year students. The other four offices are the Majors that help the Lieutenant Colonel of the first-year students. One of them is me. I am in charge of student affairs. You will see me a lot more than the others,”

Robert smiled while he opened the glass door to his office, which is the closest office to the elevator on the left side. He waved his hand telling them to go in. The two went in followed by Robert. He pointed to the two chairs, and they sat down. Robert went over to one of the drawers, he unlocked it, and he opened it pulling out a bag that had a grey bracelet along with a letter. He came over placing it on the table while sitting down.

  “Go ahead,” Robert ordered.

Mia opened the bag pulling out the letter and opened it. Jareth leaned in to read its contents.

  My dear Jareth and Mia,

If you are reading this, then I am probably dead. I am sorry for how things had to turn out. I am about to go and defend a place from the Lyrackens. It doesn’t look so well with your mother’s disappearance, and I am worried about how she did on the battlefield. In the worry that I won’t make it, I decided I will leave my bracelet behind to make sure that our family’s artifact makes it into one of your possessions. I hope that one of you has figured out the password to the computer that I left behind. If you did, then the bracelet will work well with it. I love you, Jareth and Mia. Whoever has the computer should also have the bracelet. The other should have this letter. Look closely.

  Love,

  William Nightshade, your father.

Jareth and Mia looked at each other. The two knew about the computer. Jareth knew that he is now possessing it, but Mia just thought that the computer was lost in the apartment

“The computer that our father is talking about was left at our house,” Mia said.

Jareth leaned over and whispered in her ear. “That’s not true but just don’t say a word.”

Jareth then moved his head away while taking the grey bracelet out of the bag.

Mia was looking at him like he knew something that she didn’t. A family secret maybe? She didn’t dare to ask it in front of Robert, who looked like he was trying to find something about their family.

Jareth looked at the grey bracelet and placed it on his right wrist. The gray bracelet adjusted itself, so it fit perfectly on his wrist.

“Rare artifact detected. “The Bracelet of Dominion,” has been acquired. A secret encoded message is within the artifact. Suggested to hear this alone. Would you like to hear it? Yes/No.”

Well, I don’t want Robert to hear it so no. He then selected no.

“Understood. This will be set on a consecutive reminder every 15 minutes. Pairing “The Bracelet of Dominion” to the Draven System. 1% completed, 2%, 3%…”

Well, I hope I can get a private space to hear this, but for now I don’t want Robert to know, so I should just get out of here before Robert gets suspicious.

“Well, thank you Robert, I think we will go now,” Jareth announced.

  Mia nodded in agreement.

“Very well,” Robert said. “You may leave.”

The siblings walked out of the office. Jareth pressed the down button which was the only button. A moment later they got into the elevator, the doors closed, and they began their descent.

At that moment Robert’s office phone rang. He let it ring two times before he answered. Truth be told, he didn’t want to answer the phone. He already knew who it was and had no desire to talk to the family.

“Major Robert,” he said announcing his name.

“Hello, Major Robert,” a female’s voice replied.

“Is there anything I can do for you, Jessica Youngblood?”

“Well, there is actually,” Jessica said giving a slight giggle. “Did you visit the Nightshade siblings?”

  “Yes, ma’am.”

“And did you find the whereabouts of the Draven System from the conversation that you had with them?”

Robert was about to say yes to Jessica, but he paused. Robert had worked for the hidden Youngblood faction for years. He served them and the Youngbloods provided everything he needed to help his family out of poverty overnight. He knew everything about the System that the Youngbloods were frantically trying to find. Jessica said that the System was the fastest way for their master to heal from his injuries. He was promised a place at their master's side if he was able to retrieve the system for them, and after their master got better.

His job was when the military would pick up the siblings he would join with the military collectors and use a device that he had in his pocket to scan the room for the computer system. The device detected nothing, so he assumed it was another dead end for the Youngblood family, until Mia mentioned it had been left at the apartment after they finished reading the letter. He had some loyalty to the Youngbloods and was tempted by their offer to join their master’s side, but he knew that the family was not nice and only cared about themselves. He was glad that the device had found nothing at the apartment. Now, he heard Mia said it but the way that Jareth had whispered to his sister must mean that he knows something about the tablet. Robert believed that the tablet was protected and didn’t want to see the world fall apart because of their master. The master's overseer of Earth on Youngblood Island was bad enough. He had made a choice and hoped it was the right one.

“No,” Robert said purposefully making himself sound confident.

There was silence on the other end of the phone before Jessica spoke once more.

“No?” Her voice deepened with anger. “You didn’t find the system!” She roared which forced Robert to move the phone away from his ear. Once he couldn’t hear her yelling anymore, he put the phone back to his ear. “My great grandma is going to be so mad.” Her voice this time sounded like she was worried. “Are you sure you didn’t hear anything about the system?”

“I am certain,” he said but his voice was now slightly shaky.”

She paused for a moment before a sigh was heard through the phone. “Fine,” Jessica’s depressed voice was heard. “How is my younger brother, Damion doing.”

  “He is doing well.”

“Good,” Jessica said her voice returned to normal. “Did he make any friends on day one?”

Robert paused but decided that mentioning that Damion was getting close with Jareth wouldn’t hurt.

“He became friendly with Jareth Nightshade.

“Funny that he got close to him,” Jessica said who gave a halfhearted laugh. “He doesn’t even know about the Nightshades or the System. Keep it that way. Anyway, I have to go, I’ll contact you about your next assignment whenever that would be.”

Before Robert could give a reply, he heard the other end disconnecting. He placed the phone down and gave a huge sigh.

“I can’t believe I just stood up for Jareth,” Robert said. “At least it’s better than letting the Youngbloods getting a hold of it. I just hope Jareth can continue to hide it, otherwise we will all suffer. Now I will have to focus on the alien problem again.

He looked at the elevator door. “You better do well, Nightshade. We are all counting on you.
