Iteration 2 - An End to the Slaughter

Hours had passed since the mainland alliance forces entered the fortress on foot. Yuri, after ending a life or more, must keep fighting.

"Hey! Snap out of it!", said an ally.

Yuri stood up, brushed debris off of his clothes and gripped his rifle.

  "Us. Go.", he signaled.

Leading the way, he paced softly and slowly through the path. He peeked around a corner slowly, making sure not to reveal too much of his head.

  "Clear.", he signed.

They were finally at sector A2 where the fighting had peaked. Bunkers and cannon hubs were contested as people resorted to bayonets and hatchets in close range.

Immediately, he felt the air was heavier and darker, each step feeling like a massive leap.

Turning around a corner, they saw a soldier of their own, sitting down with his hands holding himself together. He seemed to be terrified, could it be that he had lost somebody? Or perhaps he was just a coward. Random thoughts like these circles Yuri's mind.

As they went nearer to the man, a bullet struck him clean through the head. The soldier's head dropped, arms loosened, blood exiting his skull.

Yuri's eyes widened in horror. They hid behind a cover as he considered their options.

"Oh, screw this!", one of their groupmates exclaimed before moving around the corner.

They tried to stop him but it was too late.

All they saw was blood pour out of his back and him drop down lifelessly.

  "Grenade. Give. Me.", Yuri signaled.

His allies were hesitant. There was a chance the grenade be thrown back again and hit them.

  "Trust. Me.", he followed.

Running out of options, his squadmates reluctantly gave him a grenade.

He took off the pin and threw it at the enemy.

Immediately afterwards, he peeked across the corner with his rifle, and sure enough, the enemy was focused on the grenade. He didn't miss the chance to fire.

Swining himself back into the trench, he breathed heavily. Peeking again, there was no more enemy, only a soulless body with blood oozing out of his shot chest and broken leg.

They continued through the maze-like structure, not missing a single corner. Soon enough, they were met with a cannon hub, massive and filled with ammo.

He could hear rushing footsteps from the teo other entrances. From one, a group of three enemy soldiers entered the chamber. Kura hid behind the door, watching the scene. Abruptly, an allied soldier rushed into the room with an axe, hitting one of the enemies in the head and kicking another away. However, the last one grabbed his revolver and took aim at the man.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Yuri felt a slight tap on his back. He made way for the man who aimed his monstrous weapon at the door opening. Pulling the trigger, it unleashed a burst of flames into the room as the operator quickly grabbed him away. Adding to the fire was a massive explosion, caused by the shells inside.

They then entered. However, Yuri could not find the enemy soldiers. That is until, of course, he saw one of the arms stuck under debris. He covered his mouth in disgust.

In the severity of the war, both sides have begun using Fire - Dispensing Weaponry or FDWs. A weapon so horrible, everyone tried to ban it. A weapon made from pure wrath.

After hours upon hours of fighting, Yuri's group had finally arrived in A2. It was time for the final push against the mainland alliance.

Exiting the chamber, Yuri could not forget the sight and stench he was just exposed to. Yet, they kept moving. They met with another group like theirs, also making their way to sector A1. They decided to join forces.

Whilst walking even more, they passed a small container of grenades. As Yuri looked at it deeply, he noticed a slight flickering light connected to a cylindrical object. Immediately, he pushed the men beside him away before the entire thing went up in flames.

Mine traps like these were deadly, they were hard to spot yet contained a massive blast.

  "You. Ok?", he signaled.

  His allies nodded in agreement.

Continuing down the path, they approached a corner. Yuri peeked and spotted a scene that made him pull back abruplty in fear. Their injured ally sat on the floor whilst begging for the enemy to spare him. But to spare was too much a task. The gunshot sound travelled throughout the narrow hallways, heard even by those way far back.

One of the men behind him went around the corner and shot the man in the head with his rifle.

  "Go.", the man signaled.

  Yuri nodded "yes."

They had arrived at sector A1. Specifically, a bomb shelter.

Now, walking the path included dodging the severed bodies and arms of soldiers from both sides whilst avoiding blood to prevent making a noise.

In a T-Section, an enemy through a grenade.

Yuri immediately picked it up and threw it back at the enemy, unleashing a massive explosion.

After walking pass the threat, they were incredibly close to shore. However, this meant that there were larger numbers of enemies and more artillery fire. In fact, they had to duck and hide under shelters very frequently.

They soom arrived at a massive part of the trench containing machine gun nests and the lifeless bodies of those who operated them.

Suddenly from the left of Yuri, a man charged at the group with a bayonet. The sharp blade punctured through the cloth and flesh of one of their teammates, ultimately killing him.

Immediately, Yuri got a knife and stabbed him over and over. Each time he thrusted the blade, more blood poured out leaving a gaping hole on the man's chest.

He finally stopped stabbing the soldier with the help of his ally. He would've continued if they did not have any more to do, but they did.

The cheering voice of his allies in the far trenches told him that they were about to win this battle.

He only had one more corner ahead of him.

So, he threw a grenade at the enemy, exploding immediately.

  Thus, the coast was clear.

Yuri moved along the corner with his rifle at ready. Slowly, he paced towards where the enemy was.

Out of the smoke however, a barrage of machinegun fire opened on him, tearing a thousand bullet holes on his whole body.

As the fire stopped, his body stood still before finally dropping to the ground.

A soldier shot the machinegunner in the head before reaching Yuri.

"Hey... Hey! Wake up!", the soldier said in an almost commanding tone.

"He's dead.", replied another man who checked his pulse.

Outside, the battle was over. Alliance soldiers retreated back to their transports and the fleet was fleeing.

Looking back to Yuri, he saw a glimmering object.

The soldier grabbed his name tag in his boots and read the name.

"Yuri Senshu... interesting. If you can still hear, this is my name, Kura Arvanov."
