Chapter 4: Where, Who, When, How
The fly—Yzy—circled around Leo, its wings buzzing loudly in the air.
Leo rubbed his chin unconsciously, staring at it in disbelief. Could something like this really exist?
Bones jutted unevenly out from its lump of mangled flesh. Its wings and eyes were the only things that still made it resemble a fly. Its mouth, however, looked like a cat’s mouth flipped upside down in a strange “3” shape—but when it breathed, human teeth could be seen inside.
Leo was honestly horrified.
Yet strangely, he didn’t feel disgusted by the grotesque creature. After all, it had saved his life earlier.
“You’re… Yzy, right? What exactly are you? And where the hell is this place? Tell me everything you know.”
The fly continued circling before finally stopping in front of him. Its mouth twitched as it spoke, its voice clear and innocent—like a child’s. The sound sent chills down Leo’s spine.
But what Yzy looked like didn’t matter.
What it had to say did.
“I am YZY. Since you are a modern human, explaining things should be easy. I am a MENU. This place is the Sacred Conquest Board. You have been fortunate enough to be selected as a player. Your player number is 8,723,940. Player Leo Haruno.”
Leo’s expression barely changed. By now he had already realized that this wasn’t the kind of easygoing isekai nonsense his students used to joke about.
Getting hit by a truck and reincarnating as a demon lord…
Or becoming some level-9999 prince…
No. Nothing about this situation felt like that.
Leo felt deeply uncomfortable. This was a completely unfamiliar land.
“So… this is a game, huh? Then what do I have to do to beat it…?”
He suddenly paused.
There were too many questions to ask—about the game, the rules, the players—but one thing caught his attention.
“Wait… ‘modern human’? What do you mean by that? Are there people here who aren’t from modern times?”
“The Sacred Conquest Board cannot be cleared. If your question is how to leave this place, the answer is simple: earn as many points as possible.”
The fly continued flying around happily as it explained.
“Players may come from many different eras. As of the year 2026…”
“Points?”
Leo frowned. He had seen Yeri use points to purchase items through Yzy earlier. He understood that “points” were useful—but he had no idea how they were earned, or what else they could be used for besides buying things.
“To earn points, a player must KILL other players. Each life taken grants fifty points. Points can be used to purchase items. Players may also transfer points to one another. The players with the highest scores will appear on the leaderboard.”
“I… see.”
Leo suddenly felt dizzy.
If Yeri had arrived here at the same time as him… then where had all of his points come from?
That would mean…
Leo clenched his fist so tightly that his nails cut into his palm. Warm blood trickled down as he gritted his teeth.
Rage began to surge through him.
Once again—once again—Leo was convinced that Yeri was a monster he had to hunt down and destroy.
“Player… Yeri. He has points. Yzy, answer me something.”
Leo took a slow breath, forcing himself to remain calm.
“When a player earns points… is it only from kills after they arrive here…?”
He paused.
“Or… are they counted from before that?”
“Points are calculated from the moment a player is born, until they die, and then arrive here.”
Sweat rolled down Leo’s cheek as he heard the bitter truth.
So the sins of that devil had actually made him stronger.
How many innocent lives had Yeri slaughtered?
And yet he came here—not to hell, not to punishment—but to a place that unleashed him and even encouraged further killing.
Leo could barely swallow what he was hearing.
A leaderboard.
Points for killing.
He sat there silently, his face twisted with deep thought. This was truly a land where humans devoured one another.
What was he supposed to do in a place like this?
This world encouraged the beast inside people—and yet he was trapped here.
Had his students died because of those same “points”?
Determination suddenly surged through him. His fist slammed into the hard ground.
Whoever created this place was a devil.
Anyone who obeyed these demonic rules was a devil.
Sitting here would accomplish nothing. Sitting here would not bring justice.
So what if he was small and powerless?
If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Even so, he knew one thing for certain:
The very existence of this place was wrong.
Then so be it.
He would change it.
He would help the weak.
Study the strong.
He didn’t care whether the enemies were gods or saints.
He would live without shame—
And if he died, it would be in the name of justice.
“Yzy… the leaderboard. What does the person at the top receive? And… do you know who currently holds that position?”
“The player at the top of the leaderboard will be removed from the Sacred Conquest Board. Furthermore, they will become a supreme entity. To put it simply… the highest-ranked player will ascend to godhood. The leaderboard resets every ten years.”
“God…”
Leo’s eyes widened in shock.
God?
You’ve got to be kidding.
Those who dared slaughter their own kind could become gods?
Was this some kind of sick joke?
Wait…
Players could transfer points to one another…
But…
Was it possible that someone at the top of the leaderboard had achieved that position without being a monster?
Leo didn’t want to think about it.
Yet the more he tried not to ask, the more the question gnawed at him.
“The player ranked first is Bai Kuanglong, with 19,250,360 points.”
A chill ran down Leo’s spine, like hearing a ghost story whispered in the dark.
How many lives was that?
Each person was worth Fifthy points… just how many people had that monster killed to reach such a number?
oh...
"Maybe high-ranking players already carried enormous points before entering the Board. And point can also be transfer..."
But stills...
Leo clicked his tongue quietly, realizing how difficult the road ahead might truly be.
“So… ten years. How many resets have there been? And how long until the next one?”
“Eight resets have passed. The next reset will occur in four years, eight months, and twenty-three days.”
The fly began to grow bored with Leo’s endless stream of questions. At first it had been interested, but now it only felt annoyed. After all, this man had even used it as a shield earlier. Like a childish creature, the fly suddenly found its owner incredibly irritating.
“So it’s been eighty-six years… and four more years to go…”
Leo sighed and stretched his body under the shade of a banyan tree. Yzy continued circling around him, though its face now looked twisted with irritation.
“Yzy. Earlier that guy used… some kind of superpower. Explain that to me.”
Yzy snorted, clearly expecting an apology from the talkative blond man. But as a Menu, it could not disobey or betray its master.
“Yeri named his Soul Spectrum ability Eternal Stillness. Soul Spectrum is the color spectrum of a player’s soul. It grants the player a special ability. That ability is formed from personality, habits, preferences—everything blends together into a unique color spectrum. That’s why every person only has one ability.
“And by the way… Yeri’s color is Cold Purple.”
Leo’s eyes widened.
Only one ability?
Then this was it.
Maybe he’d get something insanely powerful. Something like infinite growth… or some broken ability. Hope surged through him instantly. Suddenly the whole reincarnation thing didn’t sound so bad anymore.
He could almost feel the protagonist aura wrapping around him.
He’d lived a decent life. His soul color probably wouldn’t be terrible.
What if his power was something absurd like erasing things… or stopping time?
That would basically be hitting the jackpot.
Rubbing his hands together, he looked at the fly with pleading eyes.
“So… could you just tell me what my ability is? And Kuanglong’s too while you’re at it?”
“Unfortunately, because you already became aware of Yeri’s ability, I was permitted to reveal that useless information. But the true nature of abilities, or even their names… those cannot be disclosed.”
The fly circled Leo slowly, as if trying to peer deep into his soul. Then it stopped directly in front of him, eye to eye.
Suddenly, it looked surprised.
“Oh… interesting. I’ve never seen a color like this before!”
Leo’s eyes lit up.
Trying to contain his excitement, he pressed further.
“Really? Really?! What is it?!”
The fly shook slightly, as if it couldn’t believe what it was seeing.
“Ah… my mistake. This is the first time I’ve encountered a case like this…”
“Huh????”
Leo’s voice came out cold and confused. His expression darkened.
“What the hell do you mean?”
“Your color spectrum hasn’t been decided yet. For some reason, you haven’t fully harmonized your inner self, so your superpower hasn’t formed.
“When I look into your soul, I see all kinds of chaotic colors mixed together… but none of them stand out clearly.
“Well… good luck with that.”
Leo felt as if lightning had struck him.
“WHAT????!”
He grabbed the fly, shaking the grotesque creature violently like a rattling toy.
“WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! I’m not trying to brag, but I’ve lived a proper life! I do good deeds! I have clear ideals! I dedicate myself to humanity! And you’re telling me I don’t have a clear color?!”
“Yeah. How would I know? I’m just a Menu, not a developer.”
“Developer?! What developer?! Who made this damn game?!”
“I was joking. Who knows.”
Leo completely lost his composure and threw the fly straight into the sky. It easily regained its balance and hovered again.
Meanwhile, Leo collapsed onto the ground, looking more devastated than someone who had just lost all their money. At least money could be earned again. But this whole soul color problem… he had no idea how to fix it.
He rubbed his face absentmindedly and looked up at the sky.
Dark clouds were gathering.
A cold breeze brushed past him.
Rain was coming.
Leo sighed softly, his handsome brows tightening together.
Whatever.
Looking around at the surrounding ruins, Leo realized the ancient temple had completely collapsed.
Where the hell was he supposed to take shelter from the rain?
He sighed again.
What a long day.
Yeri stared at the mysterious group before him.
A crooked smile crept across his lips. His crazed eyes swept over the silhouettes staring down at him.
Tall, short—figures hidden beneath pitch-black cloaks. Their faces concealed behind masks. No one could tell if they were men or women, or who they truly were. They looked like a bunch of fake gods and ghosts—cowards hiding their identities.
Yeri didn’t even consider them worth his attention.
“Well? So are we fighting or not?”
He raised one hand lazily, the MP5K hanging loosely from his body.
From somewhere among the group came the creaking sound of a tree branch swaying.
Everyone turned toward the sound.
A young man sat there.
Tall, though somewhat slender. At first glance his face looked almost feminine, yet he was unmistakably male. His beauty was mesmerizing—captivating to both men and women alike.
His shoulder-length hair hung messily around his face. He wore a simple white robe, something ancient and elegant that contrasted strangely with his untidy hair.
Unlike the others, he wore no mask.
The cloaked figures around him slightly bowed their heads in his presence.
Yeri observed him carefully.
Something long and cylindrical was tied to the man’s back, wrapped in black silk.
A sword?
A spear?
Yeri couldn’t read this handsome stranger at all.
“Yzy.”
The fly circled the young man. His voice was hoarse. Despite his beautiful face, his expression was cold and emotionless. Dark circles pressed beneath his sharp eyes, giving him a tired, hollow look.
“This player… how many points does he have?”
His fly answered quietly.
“570 points, Yeri.”
The man narrowed his eyes, noticing the gun hanging from Yeri’s body.
Not surprising.
There was still blood dripping from Yeri’s neck. Clearly, this man wasn’t some harmless newcomer.
“You are… a Modern. And you have 570 points. I will give you two choices.
Transfer all your points to me… or I will kill you.
It may be a slight loss, but I will at least secure 50 points.”
His voice carried no emotion. Just a single flat tone.
Yet somehow… it still carried weight.
“Yzy. That genderless pretty boy… how many points does he have?”
Yeri ignored the threat entirely, his curiosity focused on the pale-faced man before him.
His fly emerged from the void.
The next moment—
The man vanished.
Yeri’s instincts screamed that something was wrong.
Then he turned—
His fly exploded.
Too fast.
The man had moved behind him in an instant.
With a single strike, he killed Yeri’s Yzy as easily as flipping his hand.
Yeri leapt backward nearly five meters.
Never before had he felt such a strange sensation—such helplessness when facing an enemy.
But this man was different from Leo.
He was clearly not some gentle Modern.
This man had killed before.
“Ah. I couldn’t allow your Yzy to keep flying around.”
“Even if you’re a newcomer… it’s better to be cautious.”
The man’s gaze settled on Yeri.
Cold.
Emotionless.
Like a maggot burrowing into flesh.
Like Death itself examining Yeri’s soul.
“Yzy… are annoying things.”
