Chapter 3: Where Fear Gathers

I ran as fast as I could to reach it. The village wasn't that large. Could be about 40 - 50 houses.

As I approached the village, it felt quieter.

“For a village even this small should have some noise. I cannot see a single crowd either.” - I thought to myself.

Although the village seemed neat and habitable, it got me worrying for a moment.

Finally I reached the village and all the suspense inside of me exploded.

I saw crowds. But they look different from humans. Some of them have ears of different species. Some of them have hairs with non-natural colours. They all were gathering somewhere.

I took off the torn up t-shirt, walked inside the village and followed one of the villagers. They all were gathering at the centre of the village as if a festival was about to begin.

Some of the villagers looked scared and trembling, some of them looked shocked and few of them looked happy.

“Judging from their reaction, it's not a festival.” - I thought.

As I was going, I heard people whispering. I know the language. It was English. Knowing that I can speak with others, I got confident that I might get the answer about where I was.

  But it didn't last long….

As I reached the centre, I saw people glancing at something. I perched through the crowd and got in front of what they were seeing. I meet my eye with the centre of the crowd's attention. What I saw made me shiver down to my feet.

Three people were hanging dead on a giant pole. They were naked and covered in bruises. Their stomach was severed from inside. All their intestines were scattered all over the ground. The ground was drenched in blood as they were painted red. Their eyeballs and teeth were missing. They partially have hair as it was pinched out of their head.

I ran from there as fast as I could and got inside an alley. I sat there against a wall for a while processing what I saw. What brutality I witnessed. I was scratching my head again and again to release the stress. I was frightened to even say a word to any of the villagers.

Time passed and I sat there traumatized.

The sun sets. The moon appears but my mind doesn't change the picture of what I glanced at. Then slowly the dizziness kicked in because of overthinking and before I knew it, I was asleep.

That's when I heard her voice.

“Hey, you okay?” - A soft and charming voice goes through my ear.

I slowly open my eyes from slumber. Her eyes were blue, hair was white and her ears were pointy and sharp around the top. She had a calm look on her face. I just keep staring at her.

She looked back at my eyes. And said -

“Why are you looking at me like this? Pervert.”

Then all the things I thought about her changed in an instant.

“If you wake up a traumatized person in the middle of the night, of course he will stare back.” - I said in irritation.

“Traumatized? Oh Yeah, I remember a man running after seeing those 3 jerks hanging.” - She said while mocking me.

“Who doesn't get traumatized watching that brutality.” - I replied.

“Kids were there too. They didn’t flinch once.” - She said.

I stayed silent. I couldn't find a combination of words to reply back.

“Stuck thinking of a reply to this? Stay in this state for a while and answer a few of my questions. Are you from around here?” - She said.

“For me to answer that, I need to know what this place is.” - I replied.

“You are lost and homeless then.” - She said while dropping her breath.

“Just answer the question!” - I said while clenching my teeth.

“Ok fine! Just don't open your mouth. It is the Town of Hildge on the far northern side of The Kingdom of Resis” - she replied.

After hearing it, I knew that I wasn't in some secret place on Earth either. It wasn’t even Earth. It is a different place.

  Somewhere I don't belong….
