Chapter 1: Late Again!

Norville was an anthropomorphic bat who lived a humble life, he had lived in Critterpolis all his entire life. Every day he was always late for work, this day was no exception. Norville found himself oversleeping till at least 7 AM and he needed to get into the office by 9 AM! He lived in apartment complex with other animals, and he knew he just couldn’t waste his time anymore.

“Ah nuts, I’m late, I’m late!” cried Norville.

Norville did his best trying to get dressed, however he kept on buttoning his buttons all wrong. He then had to redo it at least three times. Once he got his usual business casual clothes on, he attempted to put on a tie. He did his best trying to tie a tie, but just couldn’t get it right. That wasted about another ten minutes.

  “Oh come on!” cried Norville.

Norville eventually got the hang of it, and headed off grabbing something quick like a cracker and some coffee to eat. He had no time to actually enjoy his food since he was going to be late for work. He could hear the trolley tram coming filled with other animals heading to their work destination.

“Come on, come on!” cried Norville.

Norville attempted to get towards the trolley, but he just missed it by just a few seconds.

“Can’t this day get any worse?!” cried Norville.

A car roared through the streets and splashed some water on poor Norville, Norville had no time to waste in getting changed at all. He had to wait until the next trolley arrived. A male peacock – Paris who knew Norville as a neighbor in the apartment could see how stressed out the bat was.

“I say good man, are you alright?” asked Paris, “You look a little stressed.”

Norville glared at Paris, he knew Paris was just trying to look out for him.

“I’m going to be late, my boss – Marshall is going to yell at me for sure!” cried Norville.

Marshall was an anthropomorphic lion who always managed to get his animals in line. Norville worked as a department analyst for an AI related software company. He just knew he couldn’t be late again. Finally the trolley arrived and Norville and Paris got in.

  “Quite crowded” said Paris.

Paris found a seat, but Norville had to squeeze in between two bears who had an empty space in between. The two bears glared at poor Norville who smiled back at them – he wanted no trouble. The trolley took off, the bus driver who was an elephant did his best to navigate the downtown, though the office spot was just a few paces away Norville knew anything could happen.

“Why are you wet, are you trying to get my fur all wet?” asked the black bear that Norville was sitting next to.

“I was splashed on by a car that came by a puddle, I had no time to change” said Norville.

“Excuses, excuses” grumbled the black bear.

Norville was at least grateful the black bear wasn’t ready to pounce on him, he had heard so many horror stories of animals fighting each other regardless if they were carnivores or not.
