Chapter 33

Another day, another journey to Ghorise to sell stuff. My stall is becoming fairly popular, which with the large number of people coming over to Ghorise, means that I'm effectively starting to make a lot of profit.

Laself, me, and my mom have actually been spending several hours every night making food just to keep up with the demands of the stall. They get their fair share naturally, but it's mostly me who gets most of the money thanks to the fact that I'm the one hunting down aberrants.

Speaking of that, I haven't leveled up yet despite all the crayfish I've been killing. Four aberrants have fallen to my spells since I reached level 11 but so far, no notification telling me that I've gotten stronger has popped up.

Whatever is going on with my traps is a mystery but I don't think it matters whether or not they kill monsters in that forest. Seriously, if aberrants can't get me to get a single level, then a bunch of low level monsters will only do so much for my exp bar.

Not that they're low level, I'm pretty sure the things roaming that forest are actually around level 30 or so.

"Alright Laself, here's another batch of bread." Jasiin came up to me to carry the tray after I said that, I nodded at him in thanks. "Good work by the way, I'll be stumped if it wasn't for you guys."

"We're only doing our jobs." The thug said, waving a tanned hand towards me in dismissal. With a shake of his head, he adds,"you paying us would feel so wrong if we didn't do this much."

Laughter bubbled out of my mouth, "I guess so, huh?" I grinned. For one reason or the other, these guys have been working hard. "Thanks still."

And I can't emphasize that enough, with their help, I'm able to run my stall pretty easily. Not to mention their usefulness in carrying heavy stuff for me every morning, which has become impossible for me thanks to the fact that I'm putting a ton of ice into crates to preserve my food.

Cooking every morning like this and earning money technically gets me closer to my goal. Well, one of them at least. Or maybe multiple? I'm not so sure. Money is useful though so I can't exactly say no to that.

Anyway, speaking of goals, I've been eyeing all the adventurers who visit my stall and have made note of one particular guy. There's nothing special about him physically, he has a beard, dark eyes, and well combed hair. His armor is relatively light weight, just leather and chainmail and in terms of shields he has a buckler on his left forearm.

His weapon or choice though is pretty interesting, and why is that? Well it's because he's carrying a spear with him, now most people would naturally gravitate towards swords because those things are versatile but not me.

Spears, while only got for stabbing things, are one of the easiest weapons to wield. I'm a magic caster so I don't really feel the need to learn how to swing a blade so I don't see the point of learning it, not to mention if I don't want any enemies to physically go near me then wouldn't a spear be the best weapon for that?

There's also the added benefit of me potentially being able to turn a spear into a magical staff. With its length, I am confident that I can put a lot of runes into the weapon.

So yeah, I decided to ditch [Swordsman] and go with [Spearman] as a sub class. Both accomplish the same thing in that they increase my physical capability with the only difference being that I prefer the spear for the sole reason that it's easier to use and learn.

They say that peasants are just given spears during wartime and you know what? Yeah, good for them!

Who doesn't want to wield a weapon that's easy to use?

For a while now, I've been asking myself when I should ask the adventurer to teach me so that I can get the [Spearman] sub class but so far all the answers were a variation of: "I'm too busy, I need more time."

Because that's the truth, isn't it? Laself is still pretty bad at making the food I make even though she's trying, mom is too busy taking care of our house to come here herself and start making money and Wardcruncha is... Well he's bad at cooking. For some reason.

Putting all of that into consideration means that I won't be able to get the classes that I want before winter.

I don't want that to happen so that means I need to pick whether or not I should focus on earning money or becoming stronger. Of course the answer is obvious; I'm gonna become strong, what other choice do I have?

"Laself..." No, right now isn't the ideal time for me to do this. Maybe later when we're done selling stuff. I cut myself off and focused on cooking.

Crates got emptied one by one and the day started to burn away, the spearman I wanted to hire came and went. I assume that he's probably taking quests between his appearances, every time he comes back he looks clean, no blood, no guts, nothing.

Whether or not he's killing monsters or just gathering herbs is irrelevant. The point is that he's competent enough to come back from quests.

When the day reached its conclusion, I thankfully found him and as my guards hauled the now empty crates on my cart, I approached the spearman.

He naturally turned to me, "hello young lass." He waved, I can't tell whether or not he's smiling because of his beard. "What do you want?"

"Teach me how to use the spear." I said bluntly, he's gonna be shocked no matter what so I don't see the point of wasting time. "I'll pay you."

"Oh?" The man laughed like I just said the funniest thing in the world. "Why would you want to be taught how to use the spear?"

"Because I want the spearman as a sub class." That reply wouldn't be enough so I add, "I've already reached level 11, if that's what you're wondering about."

"Interesting." The man nodded slowly, "you don't seem to be lying, you're only level 11 huh? And your age?"

"Close to 9." Saying it out loud reminded me that I don't have much time, just 8 years or so before the plot of the game starts again. Sorry Laself but I'm gonna have to prioritize this, "that should be more than good enough, shouldn't it?"

"Of course." The man made a show of nodding but I know he isn't convinced, for some reason my latest response made him skeptical. "Go back to your older sister, little girl, I'll make sure to talk to you if I want to teach you."

  "No."

"What?" The man's smile froze. "Can you say that again?"

"I said no." My own body moved without me thinking and I neared the man, glaring at him. "I'm serious when I said that I can pay you for teaching me, that isn't a joke."

"Kid, it's clear to me that you don't have money." The man eyed someone behind me and when I followed his gaze it led me to Wardcruncha. "I'm gonna call that old man okay? And you're gonna go back home. Don't cry on me now,"

Does he expect me to actually cry? I'm not a kid. This prick... Seriously I wanna tear my hair out and start screaming but I'm guessing he'll only think that he made the right choice if he sees that so I won't.

Obviously, with how much the man was staring at him, Wardcruncha would have noticed us sooner or later so he came around. "Do you need something?"

"Yes, can you take your daughter away from me?" The man pointed at me, "she's asking me to teach her how to use the spear, I'm guessing you don't want that?"

"She's not my daughter." Despite his words, Wardcruncha reached out to rub my head. "But if you're asking me? I think you should go and see if you can actually teach her how to use a spear, I'm sure a regular kid would get bored after a while, right?"

The man actually paused, he raised an eyebrow. "You'll still be paying me?"

His eyes were strictly on Wardcruncha and no one else.

"She'll be paying you." The old man pointed at me. "It may not seem like it but she's way smarter than you think."

  "Stop joking."

"This isn't something I would joke about." Wardcruncha's tone was serious, rigid. Huh, does he have that much faith in me? I'm flattered honestly. "Well, are you gonna teach her or not?"

"Whatever, sure, I'll teach her how to use the spear." The man shook his head, he faced me and smiled. "Well kid, looks like your grandpa convinced me, congratulations."

"Of course." I decided that I didn't want to correct his assumption that Wardcruncha is my grandfather.
